  • Why push evolution

I guarantee that the vast majority of your listeners are creationist. I was very that the speakers pushed the evolution narrative. Very disappointed.

  • Don’t pass this one up

These guys are the real deal. Yes, they talk hunting and fishing, but they also talk about conservation, woodland management, Ozark land history, and responsible living in our beloved hills. Although from Arkansas, they do a good job of representing the Missouri Ozarks as well. Professionally produced with great guests.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 224 - Christy Graham - The Trout Disaster: Flooding, Failed Hatcheries, & Emergency Regulations
Q: Why were the regulations set to two fish per day and 14-inch maximum length?
The two-fish daily limit and the 14-inch max size were chosen based on creel data and the desire to protect larger fish while still allowing some harvest, particularly on heavily pressured sections like the upper White River and Norfork tailwater, to balance fishing demand with conservation.
Ep. 224 - Christy Graham - The Trout Disaster: Flooding, Failed Hatcheries, & Emergency Regulations
Q: What goes into determining how many fish to stock each year?
Stocking numbers are driven primarily by angler effort data collected through creel surveys, angler surveys, and counts; this data helps forecast hours spent fishing and, combined with catch rates, guides how many fish should be stocked in different river sections.
Ep. 223 - Christy Graham - How the Ozarks Became a World-Class Trout Fishery
Q: How did the dam-building era change the local fisheries, and what is the balance today between stocking and natural reproduction?
Dams created cold-water habitats enabling widespread stocking and the growth of trout-based communities; today, there is some natural brown trout reproduction, limited rainbow trout spawning, and stocking still governs much of the fishery, with a strong emphasis on balancing fish numbers with quality and angler experience.
Ep. 223 - Christy Graham - How the Ozarks Became a World-Class Trout Fishery
Q: When did trout era in the Ozarks begin, and what did the fisheries look like before the dams?
Trout arrived in Arkansas via rail cars in the late 1800s and early 1900s, initially in the Mammoth Spring/Spring River area, with dams later creating the cold-tailwater environments that fostered the modern Ozarks trout fishery.
Ep. 219 - Ben Levin - 4 Ozark Species to Catch Before This Summer Ends
Q: What do you want to start with in terms of something that...
Ben suggests starting with the Ozark Bass due to its local endemism and strong connection to White River drainage, then moves through the others to illustrate variety and accessibility.
