  • Why push evolution

I guarantee that the vast majority of your listeners are creationist. I was very that the speakers pushed the evolution narrative. Very disappointed.

  • Don’t pass this one up

These guys are the real deal. Yes, they talk hunting and fishing, but they also talk about conservation, woodland management, Ozark land history, and responsible living in our beloved hills. Although from Arkansas, they do a good job of representing the Missouri Ozarks as well. Professionally produced with great guests.

Ep. 219 - Ben Levin - 4 Ozark Species to Catch Before This Summer Ends
Q: What do you want to start with in terms of something that...
Ben suggests starting with the Ozark Bass due to its local endemism and strong connection to White River drainage, then moves through the others to illustrate variety and accessibility.
Ep. 213 - Moe Shepherd - 50 Years of Turkey Hunting Stories ("6 Turkeys in 6 Days")
Q: Tell me a story that's quintessential in describing a perfect day in the woods.
Moe describes a morning where a gobbling bird comes in within perfect range after patient calling and careful setup, followed by a clean kill that embodies the ideal blend of tactics, timing, and luck.
Ep. 210 - Roy Pilgrim - Why Forests in the Ozarks are Declining...According to a Logger
Q: Can you clear up the debate on the Eastern Red Cedar and how to manage them on private property?
The cedar is actually an Eastern juniper; it's native but highly opportunistic. If large, grind them with a masticator or cut them; if small, use fire to manage and maintain absence after removal.
Ep. 206 - Curtis Copeland - How Digital Maps Are Reshaping Conservation in the Ozarks
Q: How can some of this GIS data be used to improve habitat and conservation in the Ozarks?
GIS data can help identify critical habitats, model water quality implications, plan restoration like stream bank stabilization, map vegetation and biodiversity, and inform policy decisions to balance development with conservation.
Ep. 207 - The New Neosho Bass Research Every Ozark Angler Should Know with Chris Middaugh & Tyler Chafin
Q: What's next for the research and public engagement?
Next steps include deeper analysis of stocking histories, developing a public-facing website and GIS hub to show purity and introgression maps, exploring gene-level mechanisms behind hybridization, and potentially creating management plans to source from pure populations for restoration or conservation efforts.
