Frank Nora pioneered a certain stream of consciousness long form monologue style unparalleled among the early podcasters and even still to this day with The Overnightscape which inspired others to follow in its wake with its own network style channel on the Overnightscape Underground. It has raw creative depth and a purity bordering on sans bias. It’s not for everyone and requires a decent imagination, but if it clicks with you, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Or in other words it’s... more
A very enjoyable listen that has been on a long journey, probably 20 years. Love the variety and all the hosts who contribute.
Perhaps the best audio entertainment in the world. Frank creates an almost daily broadcast from his life in New York and New Jersey. His voice is easy to listen to, very similar to a young Alan Alda as Hawkeye. Frank rambles about a variety of subjects such as things he encounters in New York while traveling to and from New Jersey by bus, subway and occasionally time travel. Time travel, entertainment culture, comics, music, life, philosophy, a small amount of speculative conspiracy theory, food... more
You may think podcasts are brand new, but Frank has been putting in the work for at least two decades. If you need a commute pod, chose ONS, Frank is an amazing storyteller.
Most all of the shows here are well-above average. The shows are not what you think of when you think of podcasts, other than perhaps, "Fusebox". Most of the shows are intimate, with the hosts sharing their true feelings about a variety of subjects.
Frank Nora has been doing his show for years and he's wonderful. Rubenerd is the best! I also really dig Jimbo, who is interesting and funny.

This long-running late-night audio trove leans into personal, stream-of-consciousness storytelling, nostalgia, and sprawling, exploratory monologues. Episodes often thread through retro gaming, classic media, and pop culture history, paired with deep dives into archival practices, open-format collaboration, and open-ended imagination about future media systems. A standout is the free-form, radio-style flow that blends intimate anecdotes with cultural critique, meta-commentary on podcasting and media preservation, and affectionate tributes to past entertainment eras. Listeners who enjoy intimate solo storytelling, nostalgia for early internet culture, and thoughtful rumination on technology and media history are likely to find it compelling ... more
