  • The waiting game

History has shown that women have had to wait to vote, wait for superannuation and yet they are still expected to wait for a fair go in AFLW footy fixture, payment and re-arrange their working lives around. The wealth the AFL in general holds and its sponsors surely can bring the women’s game into the 21st Century.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

You Need To Calm Down
Q: What do you see as one of the major regrets during this time?
Not maintaining clarity on where the group stood at that moment, and the misalignment between what was presented and what players felt was acceptable.
You Need To Calm Down
Q: How do you remember the situation going into the 2019 negotiation for the W players?
It was a time of increased tension, and we were naively confident at the beginning, unaware of the discontent among players.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Q: Why is the human rights framework the best way forward?
The human rights framework is essential because it prioritizes the dignity and rights of athletes, ensuring that their wellbeing is always considered in decisions made by sports organizations.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Q: Why does human rights keep getting brought up?
Human rights is a necessary discussion in sports due to various past breaches affecting players, and recent global trends emphasize the importance of prioritizing athletes' rights.
Lemonade
Q: Is there something that kind of stands out as the biggest challenge you think for those players?
For me, it's the push pull of wanting professionalism, and then what it means in the day to day when the base salary this year is $56,000.
