  • Always a winner

Been listening for years but time for a fresh review! This time to give thanks for Dilruk’s vulnerability to share.. our journeys don’t have an end as such, always up and down and he’s not necessarily in an ‘up’ phase. And that takes courage to talk about. Thanks Wil for all the work you do.. especially when you aren’t necessarily in an ‘up’ phase yourself. 🙏

  • Great but less cutting guests off

Love the conversations on wilosophy and wil’s thoughtful questions but I notice he can cut people off, and when asking guests questions, if they take a moment to answer he comes in and says his thoughts instead. Noticed a lot in the Hannah Gatsby interview. Also as an autistic person myself, sometimes takes us a moment longer to process information, so give us time! Otherwise, wonderful podcast

WILOSOPHY: Cory Doctorow on Hope, AI, Fixing the Internet and the Reverse Centaur of it all
Q: How do you see the reverse centaur concept applied to everyday work with automation and AI?
He describes reverse centaurs as the dynamic where the machine leads and the human becomes the bottleneck, a common outcome in industrial automation that can degrade worker dignity if not checked by policy and regulation.
WILOSOPHY: Cory Doctorow on Hope, AI, Fixing the Internet and the Reverse Centaur of it all
Q: What is your guiding philosophy on AI and information, and how do you stay hopeful without denying risks?
He explains that he avoids simple optimism or pessimism, focusing on hope as a practice of taking concrete steps to improve circumstances and gradually ascend toward a better state of affairs, even amid fear and anger.
WILOSOPHY: Cory Doctorow on Hope, AI, Fixing the Internet and the Reverse Centaur of it all
Q: So who are you?
Cory introduces himself as a science fiction writer, activist, journalist, and long-time EFF collaborator, outlining his work across digital rights and technology critique.
WILOSOPHY: Ben Jenkins on Why Great Work Doesn't Fix You
Q: How did you handle collaboration on set with the director and actors to protect your vision without stifling the process?
He describes maintaining a balance: on-set directions were largely avoided; instead, he focused on articulating problems and trusting actors and directors to find solutions, while using notes as a collaborative tool rather than a veto. This approach helped align everyone while preserving the show's tone and momentum.
WILOSOPHY: Ben Jenkins on Why Great Work Doesn't Fix You
Q: What sparked the shift from satire to drama for you, and how did that influence The Killings at Parrish Station?
Ben explains that wanting to explore something with more depth and experience, especially after becoming a parent, pushed him toward longer-form drama. The two timelines concept emerged as a way to use structure to explore themes while keeping the storytelling dynamic and engaging for the audience.
