Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

MRP 336: Listener Questions June 2026
Q: Cindy asked about transferring mineral rights across North Dakota, Texas, and New Mexico after her husband's passing and whether ancillary probate or trusts could simplify the process.
Advice centers on completing probate in North Dakota first, then using ancillary probate or foreign wills to transfer interests in other states; trusts can help avoid probate in multi-state scenarios, and engaging an attorney is recommended to navigate multi-state title transfers and ensure marketable title.
MRP 336: Listener Questions June 2026
Q: Stephen asked about pooling versus allocation calculations in Texas and whether there is precedent for the Texas Railroad Commission to honor paperwork related to NRI calculations.
The host explains the differences between pooling and allocation wells, notes that Texas lacks forced pooling, and emphasizes that approvals and explicit ratifications are required; the Railroad Commission generally does not have authority to alter royalty calculations without proper pooling documentation and filings.
MRP 332: Listener Questions May 2026
Q: What steps should a Louisiana mineral owner take when royalties are unpaid or production statements are missing?
Check for title issues and consider mineral servitudes; send formal requests for payment and interest, consult a Louisiana oil and gas attorney if needed, and gather documents like death certificates and probate records to establish heirs and pursue claims.
MRP 332: Listener Questions May 2026
Q: Sara, can you explain how unsolicited purchase offers typically work and whether the prices offered reflect fair market value?
The offers are often below market value and focus on existing wells and current production; they may not credit potential future wells. It's prudent to collect multiple written offers, obtain an appraisal, and assess fair market value to negotiate effectively.
MRP 320: Listener Questions February 2026
Q: How can I effectively forecast royalty income from mineral assets?
You can develop a forecasting system using historical production data and pricing projections, possibly employing mineral management software to streamline the process.
