  • Not Worth The Listen

It would be nice if this were a business focused podcast. Instead we have to listen to a hysterical left-wing Canadian with a bad case of TDS. A missed opportunity wasted on the hosts personal ideology and hatred of President Trump…

  • Good insights

I’m a big fan of Tony’s from TG tuesdays on RV, and he brings the same sort of real talk, smart market insight to this podcast. I thought the episode with Dave Williams was great. As someone who follows markets closely, and is considering a move to the oil and gas industry, I thought it was a nice little window into the world, and I’d love to hear the more nerdy technicals he mentioned!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Iran Weaponized the World’s Most Important Oil Chokepoint
Q: What were the central design choices behind the Menendez-Kirk exemptions and why did they matter for oil markets?
The design allowed exemptions for countries that significantly reduced purchases over six months, preventing abrupt loss of Iranian buyers and helping stabilize oil markets while advancing sanctions on Iran's central bank and oil sales.
How Iran Weaponized the World’s Most Important Oil Chokepoint
Q: Talk me through how the growth of these tools began and evolved through the Obama and Bush eras.
The guest explains that the U.S. began with a broad strategy of isolating Iran financially, moving from unilateral to more targeted, bank-focused pressure, and then layering in mechanisms like escrow accounts and gradual reduction waivers to avoid oil-price shocks while maintaining diplomatic pressure.
Bob McNally on Hormuz, Oil Prices, and the End of Energy Security Assumptions
Q: Why has Hormuz been the constant boogeyman for oil analysts, and how has that narrative evolved over the years?
Hormuz has always been a risk, but the perception shifted from a theoretical threat to a strategic lever that Iran could use to affect flows. My work has emphasized how the risk has moved from a hypothetical scenario to one that markets actively price in, shaped by military postures, sanctions, and negotiations.
Bob McNally on Hormuz, Oil Prices, and the End of Energy Security Assumptions
Q: Could you explain who you are and your long lineage of oil watcher expertise?
I described my path from a Peace Corps volunteer and a history-focused mindset to energy analysis, hydrogen hedging, and then policy-driven roles, culminating in founding Rapidan Energy Group to offer a one-stop view of markets, policy, and geopolitics.
Energy Stocks Are Still Cheap? Eric Nuttall Explains the Opportunity
Q: What are you using as your numbers to frame the exposure right now?
We rely on multiple data sources like Kepler for inventories and OilX for real-time production and refinery activity to gauge the scale of disruption and inform position sizing.
