Michael Dukes is a 3rd generation Alaskan and an underpaid radio talk host. He tackles the news of the day with dry wit and humor. As a Libertarian he eschews the same old US vs THEM and LEFT vs RIGHT dichotomy. He also covers things happening in the world of entertainment, sports, pop culture, technology and pretty much anything else shiny that happens to stray across his path. He can be heard da... more

I utilize this Michael Dukes podcast to stay current on all the Alaska politics and happenings. Many of the state legislatures call in to discuss their opinions on active topics. I leave the show informed and having a greater understanding of the working of our governmental processes.

Not took bad a show ,if you like politics. Totally conservative ,but he listens to both sides. Which is what we need. Biggest gripe is when he can’t decide to answer Facebook comments or run his call in show. We get to listen to grunts subtle laughs , while he decides who to answer. Rude actually.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Wednesday 5/13/26 | Headlines, New Candidates | Rep Kevin McCabe
Q: Is there a risk that a special session could be called, and how would that affect campaigning?
A special session could be called to focus on the gas line, but it would complicate campaigning and impose costs on lawmakers; there are multiple ways the governor could set timelines, and debates center on whether to prioritize one issue over broader budget items.
Wednesday 5/13/26 | Headlines, New Candidates | Rep Kevin McCabe
Q: Why did the education funding bill pass the House and what are the major concerns?
The bill adds roughly $140 million to education funding and changes the ADM count, which proponents say modernizes financing, while critics warn it masks deeper enrollment declines and shifts local costs to the state, raising concerns about long-term fiscal sustainability.
Wednesday 5/13/26 | Headlines, New Candidates | Rep Kevin McCabe
Q: What does the gold and silver specie bill actually do in practical terms?
It authorizes the use of gold and silver as legal tender without taxation when exchanged for greenbacks, effectively allowing a one-to-one trade for dollars and preserving tax treatment on collectibles, while avoiding the idea that it is merely a collectible like Pokemon cards.
Monday 5/11/26 | Last days of Session | Headlines, Phone Calls
Q: What was your impression of the Republican Convention in Soldotna, and did you see tangible energy or movement?
The caller Josh Church described moments of unity, noted strong speeches from national figures, but also acknowledged ongoing debates about censorship and whether the party is effectively turning energy into action.
Monday 5/4/26 | Headlines, Stories | Candidates Shelley Hughes, Blake Gettys
Q: Blake, when exactly did you lose your mind?
The host asks about the decision to join the campaign; Blake explains the process, noting it came after conversations with his wife, consideration of impact, and a careful assessment of how he could contribute to the state.
