  • Helpful for women too

Dr. Stephan Poulter put words to things I’ve been trying to understand for a lifetime. I’m a woman, but his lens helped me see my own wounds with surprising clarity. Looking forward to more episodes with him as a guest.

  • Reliable info, excellent host

OK, full disclosure, I’m biased, as I’ve known Jesse since he was a med student. Having said that, he is a leader in the field of Men’s Health and his information is reliable, objective, and trustworthy. He’s got a great bedside manner and explains this in a way that’s understandable to the average lay person. This is a must-listen for all men and their partners with questions about testosterone, fertility, vasectomy, and Men’s Health in general. Highly recommend.

  • too many ads, not enough actual information

Listened to 2nd episode. Basically no information. Mostly just banal filler between ads for other iHeartPodcasts shows

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Enlarged Prostate Playbook: Your Procedure Options Explained (Part 1)
Q: Is this a good use of shared decision-making or is this something where you say, look, even if you really want UroLift, it's not going to work for you?
Shared decision-making is essential; we discuss pros and cons of each option, and if a patient's specific anatomy or preferences render a procedure unlikely to work, we pivot to alternatives or refer to a colleague while remaining involved in follow-up care.
When the Penis Changes: The Basics of Peyronie’s Disease
Q: What are some of those non-surgical treatments?
Non-surgical options include a trio of approaches labeled as pills, pokes, and procedures: low-dose Cialis (tadalafil) to reduce fibrosis and improve erections, L-citrulline or L-arginine to boost nitric oxide and blood flow, and pentoxifylline to modulate inflammatory pathways and scar tissue formation; these can slow progression and improve symptoms, sometimes delaying or reducing the need for surgery.
How Fatherhood Changes the Male Brain
Q: How does adoptive or non-biological parenting affect brain changes compared to biological parenting?
Studies, including the Israeli sample, show that primary caregiving brain responses to infants are similar regardless of biological relation, indicating that parental role and caregiving responsibilities largely drive neural adaptation.
How Fatherhood Changes the Male Brain
Q: Is there evidence that testosterone changes are causal for parenting behavior, or are they a byproduct of becoming a parent?
The guest notes that evidence points to a bidirectional relationship: higher initial T may influence entry into fatherhood, but becoming a parent is associated with a drop in T, suggesting contextual hormonal flexibility rather than a simple cause-effect.
How Fatherhood Changes the Male Brain
Q: What sparked your interest in studying the 'dad brain' and how did your own upbringing influence this research?
Darby explains that observing her father's transformation and the variability of fatherhood drove her to study how parenting roles remodel the brain, emphasizing the social and developmental context over biology alone.
