  • I wish he hadn’t said that…

I’ve really enjoyed this podcast, right up until the moment Mikey compared trying to tie a knot with cold hands to someone with Parkinson’s. Karma will no longer allow me to listen. Empathy fellows, empathy.

  • Great listening when you’re in a technique plateau.

I enjoy listening to Andrew’s show because it allows me to see various perspectives from professionals who know what works. Often times, I get choice paralysis and don’t know what to throw when, or the best applications to certain techniques. This show enables me to grow as an angler. Love listening!

Why Big Bass Can't Ignore Soft Glidebaits
Q: That's great. Now, question number five, and then let you touch on anything that you think should be included and added in that we may have missed. But I want to know the setup that you're throwing the 12-inch bait on and then the best areas for anglers to target, like a large mouth or a spot or a small mouth.
The recommended setup is a Signature Series Douglas Sneaky Pete rod paired with a Goat series reel and 25-pound fluorocarbon; use a rod with substantial backbone and a sensitive tip to load and drive the lure, and target docks, wood, floating docks, and fast current areas for stripers while also exploring shallow docks and weed edges for bass.
Why Big Bass Can't Ignore Soft Glidebaits
Q: Now what kind of a treble hook is put on there? Like what brand did you stick on there?
We use a BKK Tuat 4X treble hook for its strength, durability, and sharpness, which are essential for landing large predators that strike aggressively at the big bait.
Why Big Bass Can't Ignore Soft Glidebaits
Q: Question number three for you, Garrett, and it's the Omnia Juice of the Week because The Lure Lab is presented by Omnia. But why should anglers not be afraid to throw a 12 inch glide bait or soft swimming bait such as the Papa Pete wherever they are in the country?
Throwing a big bait can elevate the size of fish you encounter; a large, visible lure often triggers aggressive, trophy-level bites, allowing anglers to catch six to nine pound class fish more consistently when conditions and forage align. The bigger meal can lead to a higher payoff regardless of region.
Why Big Bass Can't Ignore Soft Glidebaits
Q: Make it pretty easy to target and catch them at that point. All right, Garrett, question number two for you is, why did G-Ratt Baits want to design a soft plastic glide bait such as the Papa P?
As a swimbait enthusiast, Garrett always wanted a big soft bait and realized there was a market gap for a large, hard-hitting soft glide bait. The Papa Pete was designed to be the first truly large soft bait that still offers triggering action, not a traditional glide, and to appeal especially to post-spawn fish and predators chasing large prey.
Why Big Bass Can't Ignore Soft Glidebaits
Q: Sweet. Well, Garrett, first question for you is that it seems that soft glide baits are becoming more of the norm. Why should anglers add like a soft glide bait to their arsenal?
Soft glide baits are easier for fish to mouth, especially when a hard glide is hard to connect with, which increases hook-up opportunities. The soft bait's breakaway magnet and softer mouth feel allow more fish to commit, leading to higher success with big predators. Temperature and pre/post-spawn dynamics also influence when soft glides outperform hard glides, with softer baits often activating earlier when fish are more reactive.
