  • Great Nutrition Knowledge with Real World Applicability and Empathy

Lots of knowledge in the fitnesssphere about Nutrition. What sets Luke apart is his ability to connect to listeners and what challenges may come up in the real world. It is wonderful to hear from a registered dietician AND from someone who applies concepts into his own practice. Luke has a wonderful ability gently drop uncomfortable truths and also share how to navigate tradeoffs in the real world to make nutrition and fitness feasible for everyone. 💯🤌🏾

152: Joey Gast - What’s really standing in the way of your progress? Common struggles we see in coaching + things we've changed our mind on over the years
Q: What have you changed your mind on over the years?
Key pivots include embracing flexibility in programming and macro targets, recognizing that for many clients two or three workouts a week plus simple activity can yield strong results, and acknowledging that progress should be measured by both objective data and how clients feel. Parenthood has deepened empathy and shifted emphasis from perfection to sustainable, enjoyable routines that fit into real life.
152: Joey Gast - What’s really standing in the way of your progress? Common struggles we see in coaching + things we've changed our mind on over the years
Q: What are the obstacles or barriers standing in the way of client progress?
There's a lot of misaligned focus where people chase minor, flashy details instead of the big rocks like calories, protein, steps, and consistent workouts. Also, misinformation from social media, lack of accountability, and the mismatch between expectations and real-life circumstances slow progress. A good coach helps set realistic expectations, audit the basics, and guide clients to focus on the fundamentals that deliver the bulk of results.
146: Q&A - Metals/toxins in protein powder, losing weight while breastfeeding, managing social situations this summer + some q's about baby and dad life
Q: Has Hallie been sleeping well, and what has helped with infant sleep so far?
Sleep has gradually improved as they've implemented routines and lactation/infant sleep strategies; they've made adjustments like dream feeds and allowing the baby to self-regulate sleep, with notable improvements in overnight stretches and weight gain milestones for Hallie indicating healthy development.
146: Q&A - Metals/toxins in protein powder, losing weight while breastfeeding, managing social situations this summer + some q's about baby and dad life
Q: In your opinion, how soon is too soon to try and lose weight while breastfeeding postpartum?
The host says there's no one-size-fits-all answer and advises considering individual circumstances, prioritizing enough nutrition and energy to support breastfeeding, and being ready to adjust if milk supply or well-being is affected; he advocates a gradual, flexible approach rather than aggressive dieting in the early postpartum period.
149: Andres Ayesta - Perfectionism, conscious vs subconscious thinking, behavior change + Carnivore vs whole foods diet experiment
Q: How did the perfectionist, all-or-nothing mentality from school and early training influence your work and your business decisions?
It shaped an initial need for high standards and flawless execution, but over time I learned to separate health coaching from those rigid standards, emphasizing small wins and gradual progress to avoid burnout and promote sustainable change.
