  • Great podcast

No, not one of the best, the best.

And just gets better, brilliant interview with Raf Behr and the previous with Phillips O’Brian was excellent.

Still the best of all the political podcasts

One of the best political journalists in the UK, excellent choice of guests too.

Somebody needs to sort out either his microphone or microphone technique though.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump's U.S is a paper tiger
Q: What does it mean for the world if America is a paper tiger in the Gulf?
It signals weakened security guarantees for regional allies, higher risk in energy markets, and a shift of influence toward Iran and other regional powers, prompting Europe and security partners to reassess dependence on U.S. military power.
Trump's forever wars
Q: What is the core risk of Trump's approach to these wars?
The core risk is that strategic decisions are driven by whim and personality rather than careful, consultative policy, leading to unpredictable escalations and untrustworthy commitments that could trigger wider conflict and domestic backlash.
Londonov - A class act no more
Q: Peter, how do you see the future of rich London and the country evolving, given the shift you described?
London remains a service center for global wealth, but the ownership and governance of its iconic neighborhoods are increasingly international, which presents a choice about sovereignty and alignment with traditional British political structures.
A World Cup in the age of Trump
Q: What drives the ongoing dominance of a handful of European clubs and leagues in a world with 200+ FIFA member nations?
Capital, infrastructure, and talent flows concentrate in Europe, especially the Premier League and top clubs, while other regions struggle with capital constraints and governance issues that limit domestic development; migration dynamics complicate the picture but reinforce this imbalance.
A World Cup in the age of Trump
Q: Is there any real economic benefit to hosting the World Cup or major tournaments, or is it largely a myth?
Economists broadly agree there are few to no lasting economic benefits; the narrative of a transformative economic boom is largely inflated by boosters and politicians trying to justify expenditures, while the costs and opportunity losses are real.
