  • Informative cross- party discussions

Excellent podcast with a good blend of established personalities who can discuss a range of political and social issues in a refreshingly non-partisan way. Makes for interesting and very often amusing interaction. A welcome and delightful change to the usual confrontational approach in most podcasts.

  • Joyously civilised

This is my current favourite political podcast. Four people with insight and real political experience who enjoy each other’s company without having to agree with each other’s views. Any axe-grinding gets called out (unlike a certain other popular podcast). I get to listen to views very different to my own in a way that makes me want to consider them rather than having them shoved down my throat. A real pleasure to listen to Tim, Miranda, Ian and Steve. Thanks!

  • Better than Left Love in “Newsagent”

Unlike the Newsagent podcast which is just BBC lefties sharing a bubble bath, this show actually allows different opinions, genuine debate and the challenging of ideas. If only more political podcasts and their presenters had the courage to work in this way.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is Reform getting enough scrutiny?
Q: Why have we had a series of prime ministers who are so obviously not up to the job?
Miranda believes the modern era's intense scrutiny and the overwhelming demands of leadership may be too much for anyone to handle.
Who would succeed Keir Starmer?
Q: How is she ahead?
According to a poll of party members, Lucy Powell is significantly ahead in the contest for deputy leadership.
Who would succeed Keir Starmer?
Q: Can I ask you the big question first of all, Steve, before we get into some of the detail, but how much trouble do you think the government's in?
A lot, a huge amount, with many cabinet ministers in despair about the current situation.
Question time: Is there too much doom and gloom?
Q: What is the current big political issue which in say 20 years' time we'll look back on and wonder, what was all the fuss about?
The speakers reflect on historical context, discussing figures like Nigel Farage and comparing them to past political figures, suggesting that the significance of current issues may fade over time.
Question Time: the rematch
Q: When will any political party prioritize the city and towns of the South Coast?
There is a recognized problem in these areas, but addressing it requires a tailored approach and resources.
