Yes, the CIA started recruiting smokejumpers for their operations after realizing they could parachute cargo better than their own trained operatives.

I started jumping in 1961 in Missoula and then went to Alaska for two years before heading to Laos in November 1965 after spending 13 months in Korea due to conscription.

It was challenging, but we forced ourselves into it. One of us would adjust our schedule to ensure someone could always be there for the kids when school started.
