I’m absolutely loving this podcast Greg. It’s opening up the world of focusing for me as I step out into teaching it and I’ve found focusers here who use it within many of the places by world overlaps with too. So validating and enriching. It’s so wonderful hearing you interview from a Focusing place, speaking what comes alive for you. I hope we meet at the Focusing school this summer.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trusting Beyond Words in Therapy with Salvador Moreno López on The Living Process with Greg Madison
Q: How did you first encounter focusing and decide to pursue it?
It began accidentally through a colleague, followed by traveling to meet Eugene Gendlin and ultimately integrating the practice into his life and therapy, leading to collaboration with others in the field.
The Power of Gentle Presence with John Amodeo on The Living Process
Q: What role does shame play in political and social life, and how can leaders and citizens respond more healthily?
Shame dynamics underlie much political dysfunction; leaders may act from woundedness and seek external rewards, but healthy, self-accepting individuals can influence systems by modeling humility and genuine care for collective well-being.
The Power of Gentle Presence with John Amodeo on The Living Process
Q: How do you differentiate boundaries from walls, and how can one maintain openness while staying safe?
Boundaries should be fluid and used to monitor how close we allow others to be, guided by our inner felt sense; we can be tender and open when safe, and still set limits when necessary, without hardening into armor.
The Power of Gentle Presence with John Amodeo on The Living Process
Q: What inspired you to write The Power of Gentle Presence and how do you see it bridging practical daily life with spiritual traditions?
I wanted to bring practicality into the spiritual movement, grounding ideas in everyday experience and addressing parts of the psyche like shadow, hurt, and fear, while weaving in focusing and Buddhist ideas to support real relationship dynamics.
Roots and Branches of Empathic Listening with Allan Rohlfs on The Living Process with Greg Madison
Q: What is empathic listening and why does it work?
It is a dynamic interaction where the listener attends to the felt sense behind the words, and the response is formed from the listener's own felt experience rather than just the speaker's words, which helps the speaker find language for their experience.
