  • Great resource

I love this podcast as a resource for advancing learning and development expertise however I do find the presenter too opinionated and quite negative and I can lose interest quickly during the sharing of these opinions. Saying that, I still listen as I love the topics and expertise of the guests that appear on the podcast!

Transforming L&D at WM: From Running Legacy L&D to Making Real Business Impact with Brian Jarvis
Q: What would you advise other L&D leaders who want to start a transformation but feel stuck?
Be prepared to wow at the right moment by doing the groundwork, socializing a clear vision, and delivering visible early wins. Build trust gradually with stakeholders, customize approaches per partner, and be patient as advocacy and sponsorship grow through demonstrated impact.
Transforming L&D at WM: From Running Legacy L&D to Making Real Business Impact with Brian Jarvis
Q: How did you build credibility and influence with stakeholders to gain buy-in for the transformation?
Credibility came from delivering early wins, speaking the language of the business, and showing how improvements translated into measurable outcomes like time-to-readiness and cost savings. We engaged partners with tailored approaches, learned different communication styles, and demonstrated ongoing impact through data and iterative delivery.
Transforming L&D at WM: From Running Legacy L&D to Making Real Business Impact with Brian Jarvis
Q: What was the state of learning at the start of the transformation, and what signals indicated the need for change?
The learning function was isolated and not meaningfully tied to business outcomes; there was a need to connect L&D to growth, especially with the large partner network. Early conversations showed leadership acknowledging the potential value, and the redesign began with proving it could deliver tangible improvements for the most strategic client.
