  • Pricing Podcast is a must-listen!

I love all of Susan’s podcasts, but the one on pricing services was very powerful for me. I love the way she sets up a process for looking deeply at the services that we provide, and evaluating the worth of each one. This deliberate and thoughtful approach is so needed, because we (face it) don’t like looking at this aspect of our practices, and avoid it. In the process of avoiding it, we do ourselves a disservice and end up under pricing ourselves! thank you, Susan, for setting up a path to gr... more

I was introduced to this show by another mediator via LinkedIn. Such great content. I listen to it when I go on my walk. The length of the episodes are perfect and I learn so much. I always learn at least one new tip to bring with me as I build my mediation practice.

Build It Like a CEO: The Tech You Need to Run a Successful Practice with Melissa Brogdon, CEO of FourthParty on Make Money Mediating #541
Q: Why is the back end so important for a mediation practice, and what does it typically involve?
The back end is the backbone of a practice, encompassing intake, scheduling, reminders, and billing; when these are seamless and repeatable, practitioners can scale and deliver a better client experience instead of getting bogged down in repetitive tasks.
Early Wins: How Adding EDR Can Accelerate Your Practice Growth with Anne Jordan on The Practice Playbook Podcast #545
Q: How does the risk analysis portion work in practice?
Risk analysis uses objective tools like decision trees to quantify the likelihood of winning and potential damages, allowing you to assign a settlement value that reflects these probabilities, rather than relying on optimistic or biased assessments.
Early Wins: How Adding EDR Can Accelerate Your Practice Growth with Anne Jordan on The Practice Playbook Podcast #545
Q: When is the best time to start EDR in a dispute?
There isn't a fixed time; the earlier you start, the more you save in time and money. EDR can begin before filing, around filing, or later, but integrating it early, even as a mediation precondition, tends to yield better outcomes.
Early Wins: How Adding EDR Can Accelerate Your Practice Growth with Anne Jordan on The Practice Playbook Podcast #545
Q: Can you explain just on a basic level what EDR is for listeners who might not be familiar?
EDR is a structured four-step process designed to settle disputes earlier and more efficiently than traditional mediation. It emphasizes understanding the case, exchanging information, conducting risk analysis with objective valuation, and then conducting serial negotiations until the parties reach a settlement or decide to continue in court or arbitration.
From Litigator to Mediator: How to Build a Successful Neutral Practice with Scott Zucker on the Practice Playbook Podcast #557
Q: What is the core marketing approach you recommend for new mediators?
Go out, get seen, get asked out—actively participate in the legal community, volunteer, and demonstrate you are a mediator now. Visibility plus positive reputation helps clients and colleagues see you in the new role.
