  • Jonas is hard to listen too

I like mirtle. Jonas literally just says “they need to get better players” and offers no insight on how. Very frustrating to listen to

Typical disinterested and disengaged pod from J and J. Gave it another chance after they were terrible last season and nothing has changed.

  • Dumb Reviews

Some of these reviews are absurd! This podcast is the best, and Jonas is the reason I joined the athletic in the first place. Great show with a smart approach to the game. I haven’t missed a show in 3 years. Anything Jonas is on is much watch, but I stay for James’ jokes!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Should the Maple Leafs select Gavin McKenna with their first pick?
Q: Tell me who you think the Leafs will take with the number one overall pick, and tell me who you think they should take with the number one overall pick.
Scott Wheeler argues Gavin McKenna is both the likely and desired pick for the Leafs, given his elite offense and marketability, while acknowledging the risks and the need for a patient development path.
Is this a make or break trade deadline for the Leafs?
Q: What might the Leafs do with players like McMahon, Lawton, and Ekman-Larsson at the deadline?
The panel suggests multiple smaller moves are likely, with possible signings or retainment considerations; in their view, big, dramatic trades are less probable given market conditions and value assessments.
Is this a make or break trade deadline for the Leafs?
Q: Is there a path for this team to be competitive next year, and what would that require?
Both hosts and CJ imply that without smarter moves and potentially a restructuring of the front office and ownership alignment, competing next year seems unlikely; they discuss signings vs. trading assets as strategic pivots to rebuild in a sustainable way.
Is this a make or break trade deadline for the Leafs?
Q: What are your expectations for the Leafs heading into this deadline, and how big could it be?
CJ suggests the market hasn't fully cooked yet, trade activity may be slower than past deadlines, and the Leafs may trade out a few players rather than make a blockbuster, depending on the value they receive and the term on contracts.
Toronto braces for the return of Mitch Marner
Q: What are your feelings on Mitch Marner's upcoming return?
Expectations are mixed, and there may be significant booing from the crowd due to the perception of him and recent team performances.
