“Leafs Morning Take” is an exercise in frustration for anyone hoping for insightful or nuanced hockey commentary. Jay Rosehill speaks his mind — that much is undeniable, and on the surface, it’s a quality worth appreciating. There’s a certain unfiltered, straight-from-the-gut rawness to his delivery that gives the show a loose, conversational feel.

Unfortunately, the lack of a filter only serves to highlight the bigger issue: Rosehill’s takes are, more often than not, woefully underdeveloped. H... more

  • Look forward to this each morning

Before I found Leafs Morning Take, my husband and kid would have the games on and I only sorta paid attention. I knew the Toronto Maple Leafs were a big deal, but that was about it. Then my husband kept turning this show on —and everything changed.

Hosted with a perfect mix of insight, personality, and humor, Leafs Morning Take somehow makes every episode feel like you're just chatting hockey with good friends. It’s not just the stats or the scores—they break things down in a way that’s smart a... more

  • Great show guys

Really enjoy the show. Rosie’s growth on the media side is impressive. He isn’t scared to tell the truth. Great questions for the show’s guests. Keep up the great work. One ask. Less advertising pleasure. Way more ad time takes away from the strength of the show.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bo Groulx Interview
Q: Bo, how did you handle the call-up and what did you think when you finally got that chance to move up to the NHL?
He describes the surge of excitement, the care from family, and the sense of validation that came with getting called up, especially with a pivotal moment at the Bell Centre, and emphasizes his readiness to contribute offensively while embracing the challenge of the higher level.
Sunny Mehta Emerges as Betting Favourite for Leafs GM Job 👀 ft. Bruce Boudreau
Q: If Keith Pelley called you today, what would you tell him about fixing the Toronto Maple Leafs?
First, assess where the star players stand and how to bring them behind the plan, then study successful cup-winning teams to model a four-line, physical game while integrating the right amount of analytics and traditional hockey judgment.
Conflict of Interest? Check. Ovi's Final Visit to Toronto? Maybe. ft. Don Granato
Q: Don, if you can, talk about the player selection process and give some insight to how that works. What does that look like? How much say do you have with respect to roster selection and just that whole process of putting that club together?
Granato explains that roster construction is a rapid, window-driven process that weighs injuries, expiring contracts, and the balance between current players and those who can commit after the season ends. He notes a tight 48-72 hour window to assemble the team, with recruiting hinging on injury status, availability, and whether players are willing to commit post-season. He emphasizes the need to manage depth and fit for players joining late, and the challenge of promising top-line roles before rosters are finalized.
Don Granato Interview
Q: Don, talk about the player selection process and how much say you have with respect to roster selection.
The selection involves many factors, including injuries, contracts, and the limited window after the NHL season ends; while the general manager and staff set the pool, there is active collaboration to determine who is healthy and fits the team's needs.
Nylander Wants No Part of Rebuild & GM Candidates Emerge ft. Jeff Marek
Q: What are the top two coaching options if they decide to move on from Craig Brubay, and how soon could that decision come?
Cassidy and DeBoer emerge as the top two options; the Leafs are likely to delay a formal coaching decision until they settle the broader GM/leadership picture, potentially weeks to months.
