  • This is usually a fun listen

Disappointed in JD’s anti Olympic hockey take. Feels like he really moves as the wind blows… Update: While I don’t like some aspects of the show, I do think that JD is relatable - and I’m bumping my rating to five stars because I agree with every single word of his take on Ovie’s chase of Gretzky. Show is at its best when JD has a co-host like Ben or Blake to provide contrast. Love the bit about snooze on alarm clocks. // Original review: I listen to this show in part because JD often has great ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hour 1: Leafs-Treliving Split and What Comes Next w/ James Mirtle
Q: What should the Leafs focus on in selecting their next leadership?
The emphasis should be on finding a leader who can build a true brain trust, embrace a longer-term rebuild when necessary, and resist short-term payoffs; the next leader should have the authority and vision to restructure the front office and staff around a durable plan rather than chasing immediate playoffs.
Hour 1: Leafs-Treliving Split and What Comes Next w/ James Mirtle
Q: Why now and did Treliving force this rather than the Leafs forcing this?
James notes that it appears to have been in the works for some time and that ownership, led by MLSC and Keith Pelley, decided to act rather than let the season finish with a failing trajectory; the move was also driven by the need for accountability and a broader strategic reset, not just a replacement for one season's performance.
Hour 2: NBA Expansion Impacts, Tank Solutions and Early Draft Questions w/ Bobby Marks
Q: As of this moment, how you're feeling these votes are going to go and whether or not that public pushback has had any impact on the way that this thing is going to go?
Bobby Marks responds that public pushback likely has little to no impact on the decision process; the Board of Governors is more focused on concrete league issues like talent pool, lottery structure, and expansion logistics, and he believes the outcome will hinge on solid plans rather than social media sentiment.
Hour 1: Leafs Matthews Fallout and Hockey's International Future w/ James Mirtle
Q: What is your take on whether the World Cup will become the premier event for international hockey, compared to the Olympics?
Mirtle suggests the World Cup has a strong path to becoming the primary event due to NHL control, schedule clarity, and the ability to stage a five-on-five format with official NHL standards, which could outpace the Olympics in relevance.
Hour 2: Early NFL Free Agency Returns w/ James Palmer + Spectacular Shai
Q: What stood out to you as the biggest move of free agency so far?
James Palmer notes the Lindbaumbaum move as a game-changing value pick for the Raiders, stressing how it strengthens the offensive line around a young quarterback and creates a reliable anchor for their run game.
