  • Hot Take

If you enjoy early-middle-age guys who are obsessed with seeming young, sound perpetually annoyed and pissy, talk down to everyone and come off like they think they’re the smartest people in the room… then “jump on” and “chop it up” with the King of Hot Takes. When JD avoids all that b.s. he’s actually quite insightful.

  • This is usually a fun listen

Disappointed in JD’s anti Olympic hockey take. Feels like he really moves as the wind blows… Update: While I don’t like some aspects of the show, I do think that JD is relatable - and I’m bumping my rating to five stars because I agree with every single word of his take on Ovie’s chase of Gretzky. Show is at its best when JD has a co-host like Ben or Blake to provide contrast. Love the bit about snooze on alarm clocks. // Original review: I listen to this show in part because JD often has great ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jays Deadline Direction w/ Jim Bowden, Alfie is a Leaf & the Great Sports Tech Disaster
Q: What's up, Jim? How are we doing, brother?
Bowden discusses his current role as an insider analyst, then gives a quick overview of the Blue Jays' situation and the trade deadline landscape, emphasizing that the decision will depend on how the team performs going into August and potential injuries.
The Kawhi Trade, Raptors Roster Questions + LeBron's Expendables w/ Jason Timpf
Q: What do you think about the deal overall for the Raptors?
The Raptors secured a championship-caliber star in Kawhi and preserved much of their core, which makes the trade feel justified despite the long-term pick cost. The balance of risk and reward hinges on Kawhi's health and how well the rest of the roster can complement him to stay competitive in a deep East.
The Tkachuk Trade, NHL Player Empowerment + Marlies Head Coach John Gruden
Q: Yeah, I know you guys have your celebration today. And so first and foremost, you've had a couple of days to sit with us now. I'm curious if there's anything in particular that's really stuck out to you, something that you've reflected on more than anything else.
There were a lot of moments throughout the playoffs that were special to us as a staff, to our organization, and to the players; the leadership and the grind of two months culminated in a championship, which validated the hard work, development, and the team-first culture we emphasized.
The Shift in the McKenna Narrative, Draft Buzz and Preview w/ Cam Robinson
Q: Who would you take with the first overall pick?
McKenna, because he has the highest upside and regardless of the risk, you're betting on the ceiling that can transform a franchise, especially when other top prospects show a similar tier of potential.
The Raptors Pick and NBA's First-Round w/ Tate Frazier + NHL Trade Bonanza + the Problem with Bieber
Q: Which top-four picks stood out to you and why?
The hosts noted the top four were chalky with potential franchise upside; Utah's Peterson was discussed for talent upside, while the discussion around Boozer emphasized fit and the potential to coexist with surrounding talent.
