  • Hot Take

If you enjoy early-middle-age guys who are obsessed with seeming young, sound perpetually annoyed and pissy, talk down to everyone and come off like they think they’re the smartest people in the room… then “jump on” and “chop it up” with the King of Hot Takes. When JD avoids all that b.s. he’s actually quite insightful.

  • This is usually a fun listen

Disappointed in JD’s anti Olympic hockey take. Feels like he really moves as the wind blows… Update: While I don’t like some aspects of the show, I do think that JD is relatable - and I’m bumping my rating to five stars because I agree with every single word of his take on Ovie’s chase of Gretzky. Show is at its best when JD has a co-host like Ben or Blake to provide contrast. Love the bit about snooze on alarm clocks. // Original review: I listen to this show in part because JD often has great ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Toronto Takes Centre Stage at the Cup Final + Leafs Latest Hire w/ James Mirtle
Q: I guess what were your thoughts on Judd Brackett's hire and what do you know about this guy and what do you think the impact is for the Leafs?
Brackett has a strong reputation from Vancouver and Minnesota as a skilled evaluator of young talent; his background in amateur scouting and analytics suggests he'll help Toronto rebuild younger, faster, and more deeply through the draft and development, potentially reshaping the Leafs' scouting and player pipeline.
The Greatest Collapse/Comeback in NBA History + Jays' Looming Decisions w/ Ben Nicholson-Smith
Q: What do you think happens with Shane Bieber here, ideally one more start or a cautious approach?
Ben explains that ideally Bieber returns sooner with a measured ramp-up, but given the backstory, the team is likely to be deliberate, keeping options open and considering bullpen or piggyback scenarios if needed.
The Greatest Collapse/Comeback in NBA History + Jays' Looming Decisions w/ Ben Nicholson-Smith
Q: Did you stay up and watch it after the game?
Yes, the host confirms staying up and reflects on the game with a sense of awe, noting it as a remarkable finals moment and emphasizing how unique the sequence felt to viewers.
Knies Trade Package, A Memorable Jays Debut + The Canes' Comeback w/ Shayna Goldman
Q: Dylan Larkin is reportedly seeking a move; which destination makes the most sense for him given teams' needs and his no-move clause, and what would Leafs or other teams need in return?
The guest highlights Minnesota and Utah as top fits due to center needs and cap strategy, with New Jersey mentioned as a possibility if the right assets align; however, teams must balance Larkin's no-trade clause with the willingness to part with high-value, blue-chip assets, suggesting only a highly synergistic offer would be acceptable for a deal.
The Jays' Disappointing Split, Hoffman, Game 7 + Knicks Nirvana w/ Ariel Helwani
Q: What did you think of Game 7 and how it affected the Thunder's trajectory?
Game 7 showcased the Thunder's resilience but highlighted the lack of a clear late-game go-to option and exposed depth issues; the Spurs adjusted well, and the Thunder's future moves should focus on roster upgrades and potential up-moves in the draft to accelerate a championship window.
