  • You can’t find this quality for this price anywhere

Learning through storytelling is this show’s style. I appreciate that because as someone trying leadership, it’s nice to hear I’m not the only one seeing or experiencing these stories.

There is a lot of research and experience such that listeners will hear the same show multiple times and hear something new each time.

I’m used to having to pay for these kinds of shows and really appreciate that these guys are offering all this for free.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S3E5: The Art of Strategic Alignment - A discussion with Mark Reich, Author of Managing on Purpose
Q: For someone new to this space, what is the first practical step to deepen their understanding of Hoshin Kanri and related methods?
Read the book to grasp the overall framework, then start by defining three to five organizational priorities and pilot the approach within a single function before expanding.
S3E5: The Art of Strategic Alignment - A discussion with Mark Reich, Author of Managing on Purpose
Q: You mentioned the idea that the X-Matrix and other tools can distract if overemphasized. How should leaders balance tool usage with the underlying thinking and learning?
Tools should serve a purpose and be backed by fundamental thinking. Focus on learning, leadership alignment, and daily management rather than chasing a perfect tool; use tools to illuminate roles and responsibilities, not replace them.
S3E5: The Art of Strategic Alignment - A discussion with Mark Reich, Author of Managing on Purpose
Q: One of the fundamental questions is how to involve the right people in strategy deployment without getting lost in silos. How do you recommend approaching this in practice?
Start with clearly defined top priorities, then map ownership and required support across functions. Pilot in a function before rolling out to the whole company, and use vertical and horizontal catch ball to build alignment and capability at all levels.
Leading Through Imposter Syndrome (phenomenon)
Q: How do you define imposter syndrome and why is it considered a phenomenon rather than a disorder?
Imposter syndrome is the feeling of being an outsider in one's own role, characterized by doubts about abilities and a fear of being exposed as insufficient; it's treated as a phenomenon rather than a clinical syndrome, with emphasis on patterns, context, and evidence rather than pathology.
S3E10: Servant Leadership Meets The Shingo Model For Real Culture Change With Dan Fleming
Q: What does a new leader need to focus on in the first 90 days to implement these ideas effectively?
A new leader should learn from the people and the process, observe carefully, and then gradually begin to lead and make decisions. The key is balancing ongoing learning with taking concrete actions to solidify trust, demonstrate the leader's role, and start functional improvements.
