  • The real deal

A food podcast where the host knows what they are talking about. It’s not dumbed down, but is still inclusive. It’s of the moment and hyper-local, but keeps the bigger picture top of mind. Luca and Sal do the work so I trust every review….but I refuse to call Sal “Father”. That’s weird. Also cut my pizza, I don’t work there.

  • Amazing podcasts with amazing people!

I don’t actually live in LA (OC girl here), and I’m not actually able visit most of the restaurants Luca highlights. However, I do love learning about chefs, cooking, LA food and media issues that Luca covers in his pod. His interviews are professional, well researched, and insightful, but also casual enough that you feel like you are there with them. Similarity his co-hosts Sal and Karen both offer different perspectives on LA. Karen being a writer offers a unique insiders view of LA food, and ... more

  • Most recent episode

Great show. In the most recent episode referring to the lady who leaves reviews calling people scams, you compared her to trump which is pretty intense because he’s a r*pist pdfile. Even though she sucks I think saving that comparison for someone actually truly disgusting would be good. I love when yall are hyperbolic, and that reviewer sucks, but reserve that comparison for someone truly heinous. Love yall

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jessica Koslow on How Dinner at Sqirl Is Actually Going
Q: What inspired the pivot to a dinner service and a two-restaurant-in-one-space concept?
Koslow explains that opening dinner allowed Sqirl to offer a completely different experience with its own menu and liquor program, effectively creating a second restaurant in the same space and enabling a deeper, more varied expression of their food and hospitality.
How Bub and Grandma’s Took Over LA’s Bread Game
Q: What sparked your transition from advertising to bread baking?
Andy talks about the desire to speak the baker's language and ensure the bread could carry the sandwich concept, realizing the importance of bread as the core of a great sandwich and deciding to pursue it despite the risks.
Tom Schwartz on Vanderpump, The Valley, and How Restaurants Almost Broke Him. Plus, Recent Eats at Bar Di Bello, Sqirl & Bianca Sicilian.
Q: How did you transition from TV fame to running bars, and what's your current relationship with the hospitality business?
Tom describes a gradual shift from actor/bartender roles to ownership, the intense experience of opening Schwartz & Sandy's, and how nostalgia and pride in hospitality keep him in the field, despite the chaos of fame and business challenges.
Tom Schwartz on Vanderpump, The Valley, and How Restaurants Almost Broke Him. Plus, Recent Eats at Bar Di Bello, Sqirl & Bianca Sicilian.
Q: What was your favorite thing at Bar Di Bello and Osteria Mozza?
Tom Schwartz highlights the fried chicken cutlet at Bar Di Bello with onion jam and pancetta, and a rabbit ragù at Osteria Mozza as standout dishes, noting the quality and balance of sauces and textures.
LA’s James Beard Surge, Fine Dining on Trial, and Brian Bornemann on 5 Years of Crudo e Nudo
Q: One seafood item people should order less and one they should order more, what would you say?
I would say order less farmed salmon and more small, sustainable options like mackerel, sardines, and locally available small fish, which align with Crudo e Nudo's ethos of using abundant, responsibly sourced seafood.
