  • The most helpful resource I have found on this topic

I’m currently a mid 30’s fence sitter and this is the most helpful resource I have found on this question so far. Keltie brings such thoughtful insight, perspective, sensitivity, and love to this topic and it has brought me so much comfort during this period of not knowing. The guests and topics are so varied and helpful to listen to, like many others have said, I now feel less alone. Thank you Keltie!

  • Wish I’d h’heard of this a while ago!

This podcast is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Some friends recently mentioned it when my wife and I talked about how we were struggling to decide on kids or childfree. I just listened to an episode, and by no means have we decided, but the questions , concerns and arguments were so insightful and helpful! I’m excited to go along the journey, and am excited to listen to the host Keltie help us through

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

111. Caroline of @elsewherewithcare on Becoming Confidently Childfree
Q: How did the Confidently Childfree group influence your decision and confidence?
The group gave me community, validation, and practical steps to solidify my choice. It helped me feel understood, less alone, and provided a framework to articulate my decision to others, including my husband and family.
111. Caroline of @elsewherewithcare on Becoming Confidently Childfree
Q: What role did social pressure from friends and family play, and how did you navigate it?
Social pressure was intense, especially as many close friends became moms. I had to set boundaries, communicate my needs (like receiving pregnancy announcements by text), and gradually explain that my happiness and fulfillment could come without parenting. Finishing this process with the support of loved ones was crucial.
107. Dr. Margo Lowy on Maternal Ambivalence and the Emotional Complexity of Motherhood
Q: Why is it so hard to accept that motherhood can be both wonderful and hard at the same time?
Because society often pushes for a single, idealized experience of motherhood, but research and lived experience show that the and—both positive and challenging aspects—coexist, requiring a mindset shift.
107. Dr. Margo Lowy on Maternal Ambivalence and the Emotional Complexity of Motherhood
Q: Is maternal ambivalence universal among mothers, or is it limited to certain experiences?
Yes, it's universal in the sense that many mothers experience mixed emotions; it's normal to feel both joy and difficulty, and the conversation should name and normalize those feelings rather than deny them.
108. Emmalee Bierly & Jennifer Chaiken of ShrinkChicks on Friendships Between Moms and Non-Moms
Q: How do you maintain a strong friendship when one person becomes a mom and the other remains childfree?
By prioritizing deep conversations, practicing generous interpretation, and actively communicating needs while honoring each other's experiences and boundaries.
