I’m on the episode listening to pili and it gives me so much hope for my Keiki and trying to teach. She olelo so much more than mine at 2.5 and he speaks some olelo & English and loves Takaro tribe so some Tongan too. Especially not being in Hawai’i and being displaced, I love your families channels. You guys are beyond amazing. Keep going. This is the best. I’m from Turkey and living in Hawai’i. For me both English and Hawaiian are the two languages I should learn while I’m living here. I know from a first hand experience speaking a new language can be scary. But I want you all to remember, this is your ancestors language, it’s an ancient one, it’s connected through your DNA and if you let your spirit to take the course but not your ego/ self much, you will have no fear. I love and respect Hawaiian people and their ancient spiritual cultur... more

I’ve been listening and learning. Mahalo ia oulua for all your kokua. Aloha no.
Good honest talk about the struggles and triumphs of learning ‘’Olelo Hawai’i. I really like the linguistic ideas that are put up for discussion. The host’s candor is refreshing and her husband puts up some good arguments too. Inspiring.
This podcast is so helpful!! Letting go of your English, Mai hilahila and not using descriptive words that weren’t part of Hawaiian perspective has been so helpful, makes me feel less intimidated in learning and unlearning what I know of the language, and unafraid to make a mistake.
Mahalo oukou!!
I really enjoy the content and discussion that goes back and forth. Understanding where you came from, where you are, and where you are going. I also love the illustration that is used regarding working out because it’s in those times of discomfort that people can grow but most will quit. Keep going! You guys are incredible and inspire me and my family every day.
I am so glad I started from the beginning! The experiences they went through i am currently going through trying to learn hawaiian. It’s so nice to hear their journey and things that helped them learn and practice. Can’t wait to listen to the rest!
I am half way through your first podcast and I am so excited to hear the rest😊
Thank you for May 23 episode: You have to know this to learn Hawaiian. As Emily & Malu spoke, I thought about what you said. 1st going through traumatic experiences when Hawaiians were punished, ridiculed or beaten for olelo Hawaii. 2nd placing value on the Hawaiian Language for parents to speak, to learn, to listen, to educate their children. I have been told, my grandparents spoke Hawaiian, but my parents were not taught or educated in olelo Hawaii in the home or at school. The oral tradition... more
I am learning ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi “with” my toddler and appreciate the topics and candidness of your episodes. At times, I too need to remind myself to push through any shame or fear of being judged by other Hawaiians. Mahalo for sharing your mana’o.
I am the other voice that you’ll hear chiming in once in a while. Emily has an undisputed passion for creating whether it be through painting, sketching, sewing and anything else she can get her hands on. While providing her family and people with native Hawaiian goods. I mua oe e ia nei!
There is nothing like this on the internet. I love this podcast and am learning so much from it!
This ʻohana is awesome! They share their perspective on learning Hawaiian language and give great resources to people who want to learn too. They are very encouraging and inspiring. Their story is awesome and I recommend you listen if you’re interested in learning! Maika’i Emily and Malu
