  • Sabres Live review

Marty’s great; Brian Duff is awful. Also it seems the sound quality is off, perhaps being in different locations, maybe? Marty’s audio is often faint so one ups the volume for his take, then Duff speaks up and it’s deafening….makes it a hard listen in general, but worse when you add Duff’s awful narratives….someone please just tell the guy to speak like a normal person…we want straight hockey talk not Ivy League wannabe wordsmith’s.

  • Not as good as it used to be.

Marty and Duffer are both articulate but the show seems very insincere now. Like they’re just reading off what the team wants them to say. Those two could never be described as instigators. Might have to change the name to something more gentle to suit these two better.

Best Interviews on WGR: August 31-September 4
Q: What is your view on the Sabres-WGR partnership and its significance for the franchise?
Ruff emphasizes the long-standing, positive relationship and the importance of a stable media platform to showcase the Sabres, while noting how the partnership supports fan engagement and historical continuity.

Q: Why did Matt Larkin believe the Sabres were weaker on paper this year compared to last year?
He argued the Sabres lost key depth and top-line presence, notably Bowen Byram, Alex Tuch, and other veterans, but remained bullish on the core and emphasized that younger players like Zellweger and Kulich could help offset the losses; the discussion also considered how goaltending depth and trade scenarios could alter that trajectory.
7/29/26 Full Show
Q: What is the main driver behind Macklin Celebrini's contract size?
The main driver is the combination of Celebrini's elite production, his perceived ceiling as a star, and the expectation that the cap will rise significantly, which justifies a higher yearly average despite a potentially long path to Buffalo.

Q: What drew you to hockey and made you want to call hockey games?
Griffin explains that his deep love for hockey grew from childhood fandom, his Canisius and Syracuse experiences, and a personal path through development camps and beat reporting, which gave him the storytelling tools and on-air confidence to pursue play-by-play.

Q: Have you thought much about where is the best fit for Patrick Kane at this stage in his career?
The best fit would depend on the price and the role; Kane is still an elite scorer, but any move needs to be financially sensible and align with a realistic plan for him to contribute in a fit that makes sense for the team.
