  • succinctly magic talks

This the one magic podcast that I back to permanently. All pros for me:

diverse guest pool (but want more persons from stage magic scene),

    simple and comfortable sound design,

and appropriate host who listens his guests more then talks with them.

Ben Seidman #3
Q: How do you decide to retire a trick or keep it in rotation?
He describes a case-by-case approach, sometimes shelving material permanently, sometimes revisiting it later, and emphasizes continuing to develop and adapt pieces to fit his evolving style.
Ben Seidman #3
Q: What does an average Ben Seidman week look like with touring, writing, and family life?
He explains there isn't a typical week; schedules vary with flying, shows out of town, dog walks, and writing on projects like Con Man, making time management and flexibility essential.
Ben Seidman #3
Q: Do you now actively consume a lot of other people's work, or do you deliberately try and stay away from it?
He explains that he prioritizes other aspects of life and tends to focus on reading and writing; he has a large backlog of books and props and spends time on developing new material rather than consuming instructional content. When he does engage with new material, it is often to study and get inspiration rather than imitate.
Phill Smith
Q: How do you approach presenting tricks to avoid turning them into simple, flashy demonstrations?
Phill stresses building a broader narrative beyond the trick itself, using props and methods to support a larger story or real-world implication that leaves the audience with a lasting impression rather than a standalone illusion.
Phill Smith
Q: Why do you emphasize making performance feel real for you as the performer?
He argues that authenticity for the performer reduces performance load, helps maintain engagement, and makes the audience believe in the moment, even if some aspects are engineered; the goal is a seamless, believable experience.
