  • Needs more!

I am a big fan of the Good Inside movement and listen to a lot of podcasts.

I recently listened to the puberty and period podcast with high hopes and I was disappointed. I didn’t feel like any of the information was compelling and didn’t walk away with any practical guidance as the episode promised.

  • A Relief

I enjoyed the first episode and really appreciated the honesty, and the suggestions as a mom of a 9 y/o boy. The “sprinkles of lessons” at dinner and the coming shoulder to shoulder with our growing up but not yet grown kids was really helpful. I also felt and heard the slowing down of things here, which I appreciate because I’m always thinking I have to handle things and it will be over, and I need these reminders that it’s a process - both their growth and mine.

  • Unclear

I can’t tell if she’s helpful. I’ve listened to every episode and each time I can’t help but feel she doesn’t answer the question head on. I understand she’s teaching concepts on a more meta level but I just never emerge with an answer to what the caller asked.

The Even-Keel Kid: What to Do When Your Child Can't Name Their Feelings
Q: Can you give me an example of a time when you asked him questions and he couldn't find the words?
Sarah's son initially responds with short, non-committal answers; after persistent, direct questioning about a specific incident with a friend, the parent uncovers that the boy was hurt by something said earlier and hadn't addressed it, leading to a repair and reconnection.
When Your Kid Comes Out: What to Say, What to Skip, and What Really Matters
Q: What do you say to parents worried about saying the wrong thing or overreacting?
Validate that mistakes happen, focus on repair, be honest about not knowing everything, and commit to learning with the child.
When Your Kid Comes Out: What to Say, What to Skip, and What Really Matters
Q: Can you just give an example maybe for someone who's listening is like-
The guest explains practical examples of coming out and how parents can respond with honesty, curiosity, and minimal harm, emphasizing that kids are testing boundaries and watching more than they listen.
Losing My Teen to the Screen - Revisit
Q: What is the core strategy for balancing control and support when setting boundaries around devices?
The core strategy is to distinguish between control and support, maintain a close relationship, and be willing to change course as needed. Boundaries should be clear but flexible, with the parent acting as a coach who guides behavior rather than punishes the child for mistakes.
Losing My Teen to the Screen - Revisit
Q: How should families approach texting etiquette and the management of group chats?
Families should establish upfront what monitoring looks like, frame it as safety-oriented rather than punitive, and teach kids skills for respectful communication. The goal is to support the child's development and keep lines of communication open so issues can be addressed collaboratively.
