  • The chiefs

Always enjoy the chiefs. Lots of experience among them. Brodie is interesting when stays away from partisanship- could wish he would do it more often.

  • Ads interspersed with political commentary.

Always topical, interesting and fun. Unfortunately all the ads have almost made it unlistenable.

  • The Chiefs

Good day - please remind Mr. Topp that the only reason the NDP won in Alberta is because of vote splitting on the right. No amount of money spent by the right was going to over come that.

Money for campaigns is the thing. Without it it’s hard to get any messaging through.

I enjoy your podcast / the Chiefs are great

Great interview with Mark Critch. It shows the value of political humour that can bring people together in a respectful way.

  • Rahm Emanuel

Kinda discouraging discussion with Rahm Emanuel. In spite of David’s efforts to illicit some thoughtful conversation, Mr Emanuel remained combative, pretty arrogant and unable to look at the US in any way other than the current over the top misplaced patriotism. The US is in a sad, discouraging and dangerous place. Good try by David to keep going with the interview when ultimately I found your guest rude and dismissive.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Spring Economic Update: François-Philippe Champagne, Canada's Minister of Finance
Q: What is the retail opportunity in the Canada Strong Fund and how would retail Canadians participate?
The minister is excited about a retail component that would allow ordinary Canadians to participate in big projects, making collective wealth-building accessible and fostering national unity while providing structured access for qualified investors.
What's actually going on in the Canadian economy? — MEGA POD!
Q: Is diversification away from the US plausible or desirable for Canada?
Diversification is essential given US dominance, with energy, services, and selective manufacturing markets expanding. However, the US remains the dominant partner, so diversification is pursued but balanced against the benefits of a close US-CAN market.
What's actually going on in the Canadian economy? — MEGA POD!
Q: What are the key US demands in a renewed Kuzma deal?
The US seeks greater market access and fewer restraints on consumer and services markets, with sticking points around agriculture and provincial controls. The negotiations may involve concessions and a potential glide toward bilateral arrangements if trilateral deals falter.
What's actually going on in the Canadian economy? — MEGA POD!
Q: What is the current state of tariffs and their impact on Canada?
Tariffs have been a mixed bag: a deluge of US-imposed tariffs targeted at sectors like autos and metals, but Canada has managed to minimize the bite through Kuzma compliance and exemptions on many components. The overall impact is negative but less severe than feared, with localized hardships in Ontario and Quebec.
Bob Rae: Reflections on Canada & the World
Q: What are the principles behind a country that wants to be both good and prosperous these days?
Rae argues that self-interest drives state behavior, but it must be tempered by core national values and a willingness to negotiate and adapt. Canada should balance pragmatism with its commitments to development, human rights, and multilateral cooperation, recognizing that perfect consistency is unlikely but striving to align actions with stated ideals.
