  • Tired tropes

I find the subject matter interesting… but upon tuning in found the same old tropes about how the ‘conventional’ wisdom got Russia wrong, military support to Ukraine is evaporating into thin air, EU’s freezing of Russian assets is a slippery slope and so on. I’m all for contrarianism and intrigue but come on, you dummy, Russia started a war of conquest and the funds are going towards stopping a barbarous aggressor. Somehow they are missing the forest for the trees here!

  • It’s Called FICA

Why don’t you push back on the lie about entitlements? (Fossi kept insisting and pushing this misinformation). Social Security, etc., are funded by payroll taxes on pay as we go. Lift the upper income cap level so that higher income earners continue to contribute.

Otherwise, enjoy the conversations. Interesting topics explored

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Grant Williams Podcast Ep. 124 - Dave Dredge
Q: So why don't you start with that? TPA, what is it, how does it change things, and why is it a good idea and what potential problems does it have?
TPA is essentially old wine in a new bottle: manage the components of the portfolio for the totality, auditing every addition by its contribution to the whole and explicitly managing correlations rather than assuming they stay constant. It shifts focus from siloed optimization to loss-mitigating hedges that can free up capital for higher-upside strategies, while rethinking incentives to reward contribution to the whole portfolio rather than standalone performance.
The Grant Williams Podcast Ep. 121 - David Leiter FULL EPISODE
Q: Can you walk us through the five 'secrets' of Wall Street that you discuss and how they affect everyday investors?
Leiter outlines how terms are defined to market assets, how the industry pushes deals through the sales cycle, the risk of treating stocks as the business itself, the importance of testing any deal with objective math, and the idea that the market often misprices due to crowd behavior—advocating a cautious, analytical approach over hype.
The Grant Williams Podcast Ep. 121 - David Leiter FULL EPISODE
Q: Let's start with your unusual entry to Wall Street and how that journey shaped your investing philosophy.
David Leiter describes a long arc from music to real estate to investment banking, emphasizing contrarian thinking, patience, and learning from losses. He explains how early failures and careful pattern recognition led him to focus on real value and the long-term earnings power of businesses rather than chasing hot trends.
The Grant Williams Podcast Ep. 119 - Marvin Barth
Q: What does irreversibility look like in geopolitical terms, and how should markets think about winning when a traditional end state seems unclear?
Marvin argues that irreversibility changes the calculus for all players, pushing markets to consider decisive but potentially destabilizing outcomes, where traditional diplomatic and military pathways may be sidestepped in favor of quick, disruptive shifts rather than protracted conflicts.
The Grant Williams Podcast Ep. 119 - Marvin Barth
Q: But I think we're gonna kick off with the thing that's interrupted it, walk me through what that means and how you see the Iran framing evolving.
Marvin explains that the piece reframes the Iran situation beyond binary outcomes, emphasizing incentives, the role of power projection, and how misperceptions and rhetoric affect market expectations and strategic choices.
