  • Finally, my delayed thank you!

I’ve been listening to Demetri Kofinas for so long and being thinking of writing a five star review for a lot as well. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it due to my choice of podcast. With iPad I can finally finish this.

I appreciate all the talks and books and lately the newsletters. I need to work out my payment method so that I can pay some fees. You know I am cut off from the rest of the world.

Thank You Thank you Thank you

  • Could be better

Podcast has an interesting premise and a nice variety of guests. Weak link is the host babbling on about his personal views and interrupting his guests. Painful to listen to.

  • Serious TDS

It was ok before 2025. Then Demetri keeps interrupting guests with political views that no one cares. Just go listening to Pod save America if you like that kinda contents.

  • Reflections from the Frontier

What I find most remarkable about Hidden Forces is that it seems guided by a kind of moral and epistemic instinct; an echo of Arendt, Polanyi, and Postman—that may never have been named aloud. The show feels animated by the sense that the real conversation lies just beyond the edge of what can safely be said, and together with Dimitri and his friend Grant Williams I have walked that boundary with uncommon steadiness and trust.

Dimitri’s use of the phrase ‘epistemic collapse’ captures something ... more

  • Pioneering the new “bear p0rn”

I’ve listened for years, but lately it has become ranting on; the state of the world, the problems inherent in generational differences, the US’s sliding global position, all without any riffs on how to make it better. It reminds me of the economists who sell newsletters with nothing but economic doom and bearish outlooks. Some people eat that up, if you do, go for it. I’m over it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

When Empires Stop Building: The Iran War and the End of American Soft Power | Bruno Maçães
Q: Could there be a path to de-escalation or a negotiated settlement with Iran, given the credibility issues on both sides?
Maçães suggests that while theoretically possible, in practice there are deep-seated commitments to sovereignty in Iran and a loss of trust in U.S. promises, making a credible, lasting deal unlikely without foundational changes on both sides.

Q: What is the mood in Europe regarding this shift in American strategy and leadership?
Europe appears largely dependent on the United States but increasingly seeks autonomy, with some intellectuals advocating genuine independence rather than subservience to Washington.
The Coming Storm: Why 2026 Looks a Lot Like 1914 | Odd Arne Westad
Q: Why is the Cold War not the appropriate analogy for today's conflicts?
Westad argues that the unipolar world of the Cold War is fundamentally different from today's multipolar world, where the dynamics of rising powers and competition do not mirror that era.
