  • Demetri is a great host

Especially when by being open minded he exposes “intellectual-yet-idiots” like Bruno Macaes. Overall, be brings a fascinating array of thinkers on and that makes for a lively show.

  • Finally, my delayed thank you!

I’ve been listening to Demetri Kofinas for so long and being thinking of writing a five star review for a lot as well. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it due to my choice of podcast. With iPad I can finally finish this.

I appreciate all the talks and books and lately the newsletters. I need to work out my payment method so that I can pay some fees. You know I am cut off from the rest of the world.

  • Could be better

Podcast has an interesting premise and a nice variety of guests. Weak link is the host babbling on about his personal views and interrupting his guests. Painful to listen to.

It was ok before 2025. Then Demetri keeps interrupting guests with political views that no one cares. Just go listening to Pod save America if you like that kinda contents.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

God, AI, and the Coming Violence | Will Manidis
Q: What was it that was percolating inside of you that needed to come out?
Will explains that over the past decade he has wrestled with defining technology, arguing that technology is not just a collection of tools but a worldview; he also connects this to religion as a durable moral framework that can guide society amid rapid change.
How China Is Winning the Iran War | Jon Alterman
Q: Where might a viable diplomatic off-ramp emerge, and who would need to be part of crafting it?
Alterman envisions a complex, multi-party process involving the US, Iran, Israel, Gulf states, and external powers like China and Europe, emphasizing a balanced mix of deterrence, incentives, and credible diplomacy.
How China Is Winning the Iran War | Jon Alterman
Q: What explains the lack of patience in Washington, and is this impatience a broader Washington characteristic or more of a strategic misalignment?
Alterman suggests the impatience stems from political incentives and perception management, but notes a mismatch between Washington's expectations and Tehran's trajectory, leading to escalatory moves that outpace political clarity.
US Grand Strategy & the Revenge of Geopolitics | Edward Luce
Q: How do Kissinger and Brzezinski differ in their approach to the Soviet Union, and what can today's leaders learn from them?
Luce notes that Brzezinski saw the Soviet Union as a potentially unraveling empire to be strategically challenged, while Kissinger believed in managing a lasting coexistence through detente; both, however, inform a cautious but adaptable stance when dealing with China and the broader geopolitical landscape.
US Grand Strategy & the Revenge of Geopolitics | Edward Luce
Q: Why did you choose to write a biography of Zbigniew Brzezinski, and what did you learn from your interviews with him?
Luce explains that access to Brzezinski's previously untapped diaries and his intimate conversations with the former national security adviser revealed a core geopolitical realism and a willingness to argue with presidents to shape policy, which stood in contrast to later generations of policymakers.
