  • Realist, non-partisan geopolitics discussion

George has an unfortunate tendency to repeat himself over the course of a given podcast, but the programme is nevertheless excellent, insightful and well worth a listen. It analyses geopolitics from a so-called realist perspective, which makes a welcome change from (for example) the school of weaponised idealism still ascendant in the increasingly irrelevant EU. Realpolitik is “real” for a reason: human motivations are almost always intrinsically self-interested. Nota bene, dear political naïfs ... more

  • Awesome!

I love George Friedman’s geopolitical analyses! He really helps me understand what is going on in the world and why. The key word is the “why.” He cuts through the constant noise of the media and social media to deliver a clear analysis of what is happening in the world. Bravo, George. I love the podcast and will soon be subscribing again once I have more time to read the brilliant analyses published by GPF. Also, I’d love more podcasts and country geopolitical monographs as you did when y... more

  • Well done but far too partisan

Beautiful topics, well executed but more a piece of political propaganda for the right wing thinkers rather than an independent perspective on the world

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Evolution of the Iran War
Q: If you were in the Oval Office, given the IRGC's strength and the Hormuz challenge, what would you propose?
The options include attempting to deter or defeat the IRGC more directly, possibly involving regional allies or the Artesh, and weighing the risks of ground intervention against the economic and strategic costs of continued disruption.
The Evolution of the Iran War
Q: What do you think the current goals are now for the United States, or are they still being figured out?
The analysis suggests a shift from pursuing a quick regime change to managing a longer, ground-based conflict around keeping strategic Straits open and neutralizing the ability of the IRGC to threaten regional security and global oil supplies.
The Evolution of the Iran War
Q: George, how are you today?
I'm fine, how are you? We discuss the ongoing war aims and how the initial expectations have shifted as the IRGC proved more resilient and the military strategy evolved.
George Friedman on America's Real Iran Goals: Regime Change or Regional Reset?
Q: What would a future regime in Iran look like if this leadership was removed, and could there be a cycle of negotiations and strikes?
A new regime would depend on internal unity and the ability of a professional army to stabilize the country; while negotiations could resume, the strategic environment would likely see ongoing pressure from the United States and regional actors, making a prolonged cycle possible but not guaranteed.
George Friedman on America's Real Iran Goals: Regime Change or Regional Reset?
Q: Why did negotiations fail, and what did the Iranians want in terms of nuclear capabilities?
Negotiations failed because the United States insisted on complete abandonment of the nuclear program, while the Iranians insisted on keeping some nuclear activities for medical and research purposes, and there was no sufficient agreement on inspections to resolve the issue.
