  • So arrogant

Mr. Friedman seems to think he has some real insight, his assumptions that no one else thought of the obvious is quite amusing. He makes some bold statements and then follows it with “but I don’t have any intelligence” to back it up.

  • Realist, non-partisan geopolitics discussion

George has an unfortunate tendency to repeat himself over the course of a given podcast, but the programme is nevertheless excellent, insightful and well worth a listen. It analyses geopolitics from a so-called realist perspective, which makes a welcome change from (for example) the school of weaponised idealism still ascendant in the increasingly irrelevant EU. Realpolitik is “real” for a reason: human motivations are almost always intrinsically self-interested. Nota bene, dear political naïfs ... more

  • Awesome!

I love George Friedman’s geopolitical analyses! He really helps me understand what is going on in the world and why. The key word is the “why.” He cuts through the constant noise of the media and social media to deliver a clear analysis of what is happening in the world. Bravo, George. I love the podcast and will soon be subscribing again once I have more time to read the brilliant analyses published by GPF. Also, I’d love more podcasts and country geopolitical monographs as you did when y... more

Who's Holding the Cards? George Friedman on Iran War Stalemate
Q: Is NATO still a relevant framework in this context, or has its relevance faded?
NATO's relevance is questioned in this episode; the alliance's traditional role in European security is challenged by broader geopolitical shifts, suggesting that new alignments and power calculations may supersede it in this era.
Who's Holding the Cards? George Friedman on Iran War Stalemate
Q: What role does China play in pressuring Iran or facilitating a deal, given its economic ties to both countries?
China can influence the bargaining by leveraging its oil needs and access to the U.S. market; its involvement can shift the cost-benefit calculus for Iran and help sustain or pressure negotiations depending on how Beijing weighs its own interests against those of Washington.
Who's Holding the Cards? George Friedman on Iran War Stalemate
Q: Who holds the cards in a potential renewed negotiation, and how should each side play them?
Each side should recognize it can walk away and endure a longer struggle; the side with greater willingness to endure cost and the ability to maintain pressure—economically or militarily—will shape outcomes in talks.
Who's Holding the Cards? George Friedman on Iran War Stalemate
Q: George, why do you think we got to the ceasefire in the first place and what does that say about the nature of these negotiations?
Endings of wars often come through negotiation rather than decisive victory; the ceasefire reflects that both sides recognize the unsustainability of prolonged conflict and the leverage created by stalemate, which forces negotiations even if each side pretends they could continue.
The Geopolitics of Space
Q: Do you think there are or will be rules in space warfare?
There are understandings but no formal rules; violations would signal intent to escalate and would rely on existing strategic calculations rather than treaties.
