  • So arrogant

Mr. Friedman seems to think he has some real insight, his assumptions that no one else thought of the obvious is quite amusing. He makes some bold statements and then follows it with “but I don’t have any intelligence” to back it up.

  • Realist, non-partisan geopolitics discussion

George has an unfortunate tendency to repeat himself over the course of a given podcast, but the programme is nevertheless excellent, insightful and well worth a listen. It analyses geopolitics from a so-called realist perspective, which makes a welcome change from (for example) the school of weaponised idealism still ascendant in the increasingly irrelevant EU. Realpolitik is “real” for a reason: human motivations are almost always intrinsically self-interested. Nota bene, dear political naïfs ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Crisis in Cuba: George Friedman on the Return of US Pressure
Q: What would constitute a successful outcome for the US in this scenario if invasion is off the table?
A sustainable regime change achieved through targeted economic pressure and internal destabilization that leads to reforms or a reorientation of Cuba's leadership, while avoiding a costly military campaign and minimizing regional spillover.
Crisis in Cuba: George Friedman on the Return of US Pressure
Q: So, with Cuba in crisis, what might the US actually do here, George?
Friedman outlines a range of options short of invasion, emphasizing economic and political pressure, covert support for dissidents, and leveraging regional alliances, while warning that a full-scale ground war would be costly and likely counterproductive.
The Week the New Global Reality Showed Itself
Q: Do you think this could be the moment that big things happen and the new geopolitical order materializes?
It's clearly materializing; we're moving from a brittle, post-Cold War setup to a storm in which new relationships must be built, particularly between the US and China, with Europe defining its stance and Russia facing an identity and economic crisis.
The Week the New Global Reality Showed Itself
Q: Could you remind us why this moment is so significant, given the long arc of these events?
This moment is significant because it marks a clear recalibration of Russian objectives, a rethinking of Europe's role and its negotiating capacity, the potential realignment of energy and investment flows with Europe, and the coming together of the US and China as the central axis around which global power will revolve.
The Week the New Global Reality Showed Itself
Q: So today on the podcast, are we seeing the new geopolitical order materialize in front of our eyes?
Yes, the dynamics are shifting as Putin signals an end to the war and Europe redefines its strategic posture, while the US and China move toward a convergent set of interests that will reshape alliances and economic ties.
