Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 179: Redefining rare disease realities with Sharon Terry of the Genetic Alliance
Q: What have you learned about how to manage that nonprofit and for-profit alliance to do the most good?
Money is involved, and we should not be treating data or samples as monetizable assets but as shared resources for public good.
EP 179: Redefining rare disease realities with Sharon Terry of the Genetic Alliance
Q: What do lay person led biobanks do well and differently that most other biobanks miss?
They allow individuals living with the disease to control their samples, deciding how they are used, instead of being locked by institutions.
EP 177: The vision of Our Future Health with Raghib Ali
Q: Can you talk a little bit about its focus? Why did the program start and what are you all trying to achieve?
Our Future Health focuses on early detection and prevention of diseases by identifying high-risk individuals through genetic testing. The program aims to transform the healthcare model from late-stage treatment to proactive health management.
EP 176: Hunting rare kidney disease mutations with Anthony Bleyer of Wake Forest and Stan Kmoch of Charles University
Q: What proportion of people end up with a cause, as described today in one of these more common genes, or one of the rare ones that you and your colleagues have discovered?
Approximately 10% of patients with kidney disease have a genetic cause, while 25% who enter dialysis do not have a diagnosis due to nephrologists being more focused on management than diagnosis.
EP 175: Pioneering treatment for stop codon disease using tRNA with Michelle Werner of Alltrna
Q: What did you publish about preclinical proof of concept?
We presented encouraging protein restoration data in two disease models, showing nearly 50% protein restoration in MMA at day four.
