When listening to a podcast for the first time, I start at the beginning. They do often get better over time as the podcaster gains experience. This podcaster gets positive points for clearly stating that she isn’t an expert, that she is learning along with the audience. I definitely allow a lot of slack for pronunciation, scientific terms are often difficult to pronounce or have >1 accepted pronunciation.

But, while listening to episode #2, I turned it off after the 5th time the podcaster said ... more

  • Frustrating

    This podcasts interviews

lots of great experts with a deep knowledge but always frustrates me because the technical stuff is never really addressed in any depth. With some genetic knowledge I repeatedly find it a missed opportunity, as the questions I want to ask are omitted. If it has a huge lay audience that’s fine, but not for me.

#400 The Story Behind "DNA Today"
Q: So, can you take us through the story of how DNA Today actually came to be?
DNA Today started as a high school project and evolved through a series of experiments, from bioethics debates recorded with a friend to interviewing experts, ultimately becoming a weekly show with a broader mission to educate and connect people through genetics.
#395 Mapping Melanoma: How Spatial Biology Is Advancing Cancer Research
Q: Can precision medicine help tailor treatments to melanoma subtypes based on microenvironment and spatial context?
The goal is to use spatial and single-cell insights to predict which patients will benefit from specific therapies, moving toward dynamic, adaptive treatment strategies rather than one-size-fits-all approaches; this requires integrating multi-omics data and understanding tissue context.
#395 Mapping Melanoma: How Spatial Biology Is Advancing Cancer Research
Q: Thomas, could you explain the current landscape of melanoma research and where immunology and immunotherapy fit into it?
Immunotherapy has become a central paradigm in melanoma over the last couple of decades, with PD-1 and CTLA-4 inhibitors pioneering responses across cancers; however, the key issue remains understanding why some patients respond while others resist, which is tied to tumor-immune interactions and the broader microenvironment.
