  • Disappointed

Dismayed at the title of the recent offering, ‘Is this what globalizing the intifada looks like? ‘ well no actually, why link an act of violence by a man struggling with mental health issues to protests against Palestinian injustice? Sloppy, sensationalist journalism from a podcast that, up to now, had reflected a diversity of opinion in a calm and rational manner. A big fail by a normally reliable source of news and comment.

  • Harry and Megan

Just registering my disagreement that Harry and Megan have no support in the UK or US they are certainly talked down in some of the press and social media but I feel a great deal of sympathy for their position, and wish them well. Harry was born a royal and the fact Charles and William haven't helped with security costs despite the threats Harry and his family face, and the enormous fortune Charles and William make from the royal estates seems unjustifiable to me. I think William and Kate in par... more

The far-right WIN BIG in Germany - what comes next?
Q: You've just witnessed a significant electoral victory for the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt; how do you interpret this in the broader German political landscape?
The panel notes that while Saxony-Anhalt is a small state, the surge signals a national trend and reflects deep-seated concerns about representation, economic woes in the East, and perceived neglect by traditional parties; it could presage further gains if center-right parties adjust their policies to appeal to the AfD's base without legitimizing its positions.
Could Britain’s Israel sanctions actually HELP Netanyahu?
Q: Do you think this is a political gesture that could backfire or actually alter the Israeli political calculus ahead of elections?
The panelists debate potential backfire vs. strategic signaling, noting that international pressure could influence Israeli politics, but warning that timing relative to elections affects domestic perceptions and outcomes.
Could Britain’s Israel sanctions actually HELP Netanyahu?
Q: So Malcolm, do you agree with Emily Thornberry at last?
Rifkind acknowledges the timing debate but stresses the importance of not delaying action and views the move as a potentially constructive step toward a two-state solution when paired with consistent policy.
Could Britain’s Israel sanctions actually HELP Netanyahu?
Q: Emily Thornberry, you were in the House of Commons today, and when you heard the announcement from the Foreign Secretary, what did you mean by that exactly?
Thornberry expresses cautious optimism, framing the move as a long-overdue step that aligns Britain's actions with its stated values, while emphasizing the need for steady, principled pressure to end the occupation.
A ‘SUPERSIZED’ El Niño is coming. Can we handle the economic shock?
Q: How prepared is the humanitarian and financial system to handle such an event?
There is progress through anticipatory action and stress-testing exercises, but much depends on funding, coordination, and better data to identify at-risk communities; the system is learning but needs more sustained investment.
