  • Disappointed

Dismayed at the title of the recent offering, ‘Is this what globalizing the intifada looks like? ‘ well no actually, why link an act of violence by a man struggling with mental health issues to protests against Palestinian injustice? Sloppy, sensationalist journalism from a podcast that, up to now, had reflected a diversity of opinion in a calm and rational manner. A big fail by a normally reliable source of news and comment.

  • Harry and Megan

Just registering my disagreement that Harry and Megan have no support in the UK or US they are certainly talked down in some of the press and social media but I feel a great deal of sympathy for their position, and wish them well. Harry was born a royal and the fact Charles and William haven't helped with security costs despite the threats Harry and his family face, and the enormous fortune Charles and William make from the royal estates seems unjustifiable to me. I think William and Kate in par... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

‘ABJECT HUMILIATION - WORSE THAN OBAMA DEAL’ - why Trump can’t get out of Iran war
Q: Yael, what's going on with the oil shock, and why do prices stay stubbornly below $100 despite the ceasefire disruptions?
Yael Selfin explains that markets are pricing in faster resolution than reality and weighing supply/demand dynamics, with weaker global demand, stockpiling, and alternative energy sources dampening price spikes, even as risk remains elevated and the supply chain (like the Strait of Hormuz) remains fragile.
Trump wants to be ‘THE LAST PRESIDENT’ - Maggie Haberman
Q: How does the second term affect accountability compared to the first?
She notes a reduced sense of accountability in the second term, with business leaders cowed, a different media environment, and congressional Republicans more deferential, which gives Trump greater freedom to act.
Trump wants to be ‘THE LAST PRESIDENT’ - Maggie Haberman
Q: What did Maggie Haberman observe about Trump's obsession with power and history?
Haberman explains that Trump is driven by a desire to be remembered among history's great figures, and that he often conflates power with legitimacy, using repetition and loyalty within his circle to shape perceptions.
Has the UK learned THE WRONG lessons from Russia-Ukraine war
Q: Do you think the Ukraine war has fundamentally changed the way we should think about national defense?
Yes. The conversation emphasizes that warfare is increasingly driven by fast-moving tech, private financing, and new forms of deterrence. Traditional platforms like submarines and large ships compete with agile drones and cyber-resilience strategies, suggesting a broader, holistic approach to national defense and civil resilience.
Has the UK learned THE WRONG lessons from Russia-Ukraine war
Q: What is your big takeaway on this defense review today?
The takeaways center on skepticism about spending levels, concerns over whether the UK is prioritizing the right technologies (drones, AI, robotics), and worries that procurement inefficiencies and long lead times could leave Britain vulnerable despite announced increases. There's a push to align budgets with NATO targets while avoiding overpromising to the public.
