  • My favorite wellness podcast!

This podcast is hands down my favorite health and wellness podcast, and that’s saying something, because I listen to a lot of them 😅 Jay, Mike, and Theresa go so in-depth and they’re so knowledgeable. I have learned so much and deepened my understanding of these complex health topics. They also lay things out so simply, it makes it easy to implement these steps in your own life. I also love their objective and professional but non-judgmental approach. Highly recommend!

  • So informative

I have listened to many episodes (I recommend starting from ep 1 to learn the basics of prometabolic eating). It’s so informative and educational. Do yourself a favour and stop scrolling through all the misinformation out there on MSM, and listen to this instead!

  • Where has this podcast been all my life?

Incredibly informative podcast that gives a refreshing point of view. Highlights mitochondrial function as the key factor in why the keto craze doesn’t work for everyone. The oxalate series was mind blowing and makes other oxalate conversations laughable. New listener!

  • If you care about your health, listen to this podcast.

Being in the health and wellness field myself I know how overly saturated the field can be and how confusing all the information is. With Jay, Mike and Theresa you get legitimate, well researched and experienced and informative, understanding and communication to carry forward in health. So grateful for what they all share.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Blood Sugar Spiks, Carbs Deplete Nutrients, Thiamine Protocols, & Optimal Heart Rate (Q&A)
Q: What is the relationship between high-dose thiamine protocols and carbohydrate metabolism, and how should one marry these approaches?
High-dose thiamine can support metabolism, especially when carbohydrate intake is substantial, since thiamine is necessary for carbohydrate metabolism (pyruvate dehydrogenase). It's not a universal fix, but ensuring adequate B-vitamins and overall nutrient sufficiency can help, particularly for fatigue and digestion. The guidance is to focus on nutrient-dense foods and avoid over-supplementation unless deficiencies or symptoms indicate a benefit.
Blood Sugar Spiks, Carbs Deplete Nutrients, Thiamine Protocols, & Optimal Heart Rate (Q&A)
Q: Could you discuss resting heart rate from the bioenergetic/thyroid viewpoint and how to interpret it in relation to metabolism and fitness?
Resting heart rate reflects more than fitness; it signals sympathetic versus parasympathetic balance and metabolic rate. A lower resting heart rate usually correlates with better fitness, but in hypothyroid or stressed states it can be misleading. The host recommends a general target of 70-85 bpm for many, with adjustments down for higher aerobic fitness, and emphasizes interpreting HR in the context of thyroid health and metabolic state.
Blood Sugar Spiks, Carbs Deplete Nutrients, Thiamine Protocols, & Optimal Heart Rate (Q&A)
Q: Should beans be avoided because of anti-nutrients, and are they ever a healthy carbohydrate source?
Beans are high in anti-nutrients and starch, and while they can lower postprandial glucose due to their composition, they are generally not recommended as a primary carbohydrate source. Sprouting or soaking can reduce anti-nutrients, but the overall stance is to prefer other carbohydrate sources unless beans fit a person's digestion and glucose context, and to focus on nutrient-dense options while monitoring digestion and energy.
Low-Carb and Fasting Caused Bloating, Low Energy, and Constipation
Q: So tell me a bit about that. Tell me a bit about the history with the different dietary approaches, what the goals were there, and how they worked for you or didn't work for you?
Sean explains his evolution from low-fat and later low-carb, cyclical dieting to a more flexible, energy-based approach. He describes initial improvements with certain protocols but later worsening digestion, distension, and energy, leading to a pivot toward a bio-energetic framework that emphasizes balanced macronutrients, digestive health, and listening to the body.
Prediabetes, Gut Issues, Brain Fog, High Blood Pressure, & Fatigue from Low-Carb & Fasting
Q: What led you to question your dietary practices?
Andrew describes reaching a breaking point where he realized that despite being lean, he felt terrible and was facing serious health issues.
