Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 042: Redefining Risk with Jenny Just
Q: How did Jenny Just's early experiences shape her approach to risk and decision-making?
She describes starting in options trading, building a firm with limited capital, and learning to test ideas quickly. The process taught her that success isn't about winning every time but about structuring decisions to broaden the range of outcomes and manage downside, which later informed Poker Power's mission to empower women with risk literacy.
Episode 039: Bulls, Bears, and Biases with Howard Marks
Q: How should average investors think about investing under uncertainty?
They should recognize their limitations, accept base rates, and aim for reasonable expectations rather than trying to beat the market.
Episode 039: Bulls, Bears, and Biases with Howard Marks
Q: What are some cognitive biases that investors face during stable and volatile market conditions?
Investor optimism and tendency to overreact, which leads to price movements not reflecting intrinsic value.
Episode 039: Bulls, Bears, and Biases with Howard Marks
Q: How does the market express uncertainty?
Prices fluctuate, reflecting psychological expectations rather than the intrinsic values of companies.
Episode 036: The Science of Clearer Thinking with Spencer Greenberg
Q: Why do you think biases are so durable and knowing about them isn't enough?
It's not just about knowing biases; awareness must translate into action at the right moments when making decisions, which requires practice and additional strategies.
