Love your show, I listen every morning while brushing my teeth :-) even tho I no longer live in DC. Making a comment about Ally's Maine review. Farmington is not considered outside of Portland, it's in rural western Maine, second district. And Bangor is not considered northernmost, that be Presque Isle Maine. The real political and cultural divides are between coastal Maine (elites, usually Dems) and inland/western/northern ME, (lots of Trump and MAGA signs). Might want to talk to a few Mainiacs... more

  • Jake, stop

Liz Truss? Seriously? Please don’t suggest you’re a policy person. Just report the news from the inside. You’re embarrassing yourself.

  • Becoming unlistenable

I’ve been listening to Anna and Jake since they were on Playbook but it’s becoming harder and harder to listen to the podcast as Jake’s right wing bias becomes more and more obvious. His glee when things work out for republicans versus his clear disappointment when things go well for Democrats is bad enough but his overt partiality is affecting the edits of this “news” source. Every time Jake is on it feels less like unique, insider reporting and more like Fox News-esque propaganda.

  • Good insider info but horrible copy read

This is a podcast for policy/political geeks. Some insider stuff not presented in the most enjoyable way as the broadcast voices are horrible. But the worst part of the cast is the guy who does the ad reads - literally fingernails on chalkboard horrible. Thank God for the 30 second fast forward when I hear his monotone reading voice.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hakeem Jeffries' take: Inside the funding fight
Q: Are Obamacare subsidies their most vulnerable point?
Yes, the unprecedented assault on health care makes it a critical issue for us to focus on in our discussions.
Hakeem Jeffries' take: Inside the funding fight
Q: So, you voted against the clean CR. How do you explain to the American people and federal workers who won't get paid if a shutdown happens?
It's important to clarify that if the government shuts down, it's due to the Republicans wanting that outcome. We're prepared to do our jobs to prevent it.
Hakeem Jeffries' take: Inside the funding fight
Q: Your position is you want a funding bill with a bunch of health care priorities, stop the president from acting on rescissions. What is your reaction to that?
We're ready to engage and discuss with anyone to prevent the shutdown and address the health care crisis caused by Republicans.
The Readback: Andrew talks UNGA
Q: What do you see as the outlook for this Russia sanctions bill?
The Senate likely won't act on the bill until they receive a signal from the Trump administration, despite strong support for it.
Senate Minority Leader Schumer gets candid on shutdown politics
Q: Will you run for re-election in 2020?
My first focus is winning in 2026, getting back the Senate in 2026, and that is my focus. It's sort of my North Star.
