  • How to

I can't justify spending thousands of years on fishing. Got me an old boat with a 50 and a $99 depth finder. I'd sure appreciate tips on catching crappie on my level. Just found your show about 6 months ago but I'm enjoying it. Thanks.

  • Super Informative

Love the show. Super informative! One request: don’t spilt the mics between R/L channels. Some guys need to have only one earbud in and we can’t hear the full conversation.

Thanks for all the hard work guys!

Pulling Crank Baits for Crappie in the Summer
Q: What fundamentals would you say to someone interested in getting into pulling crankbaits for crappie?
Start with basic gear you can afford, focus on line counters and proper depth, and use your electronics to learn where fish hold and how baits interact with that structure; you don't need the most expensive setup to begin—just reliable access to depth control and a willingness to experiment with colors and speeds.
Summertime Oxbow Crappie
Q: What is a typical setup and how do you adjust if the fish are not biting?
Use a mix of methods depending on the hole: pitch to the far side of large holes and twitch across; in single holes, move around rather than settling in one spot; watch for when to move if no bite appears within a minute, and vary lure type, jig head size, and whether to use a slip float based on visibility and depth.
Summertime Oxbow Crappie
Q: What are some of the ways that you catch crappie during the heat of the summer on oxbows?
Post-spawn, crappie move to stumps and open water to feed, then seek shade and structure around cypress roots and lily pads; in the heat, fishing small holes in lily pads with a small jig or minnow is effective, and when fish get spooky, switching to a spinning reel with a slip float helps maintain a working presentation while staying off the fish. Jig colors leaning toward translucent or black/chartreuse with a bit of glitter, and using the smallest viable minnow with a light hook, are preferred techniques.
Where Do Crappie Go After The Spawn
Q: What is a mistake that you see a lot of fishermen making?
Many fishermen spend too much time on a brush pile just because they see the fish; if they don't bite after several casts, they should move on.
How Different Crappie Lakes Have Different Personalities
Q: What are some of the ways you're setting up now to fish compared to spider rigging?
Typically I want to slow down my presentation and possibly use smaller jigs as it gets colder.
