  • Jamie’s gets stuck in

Finally listening to Jamie get into an MP about there double speak and nonsense(14/10/22). There pushing tax hikes while claiming to be on the side of farmers. Good on you and do it some more! ‘30% reduction in co2/kg red meat since 1990’ MP ‘don’t care we want $$$$!’

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Being Farmstrong: Dana Carver
Q: How do rosters and social activities impact retention and performance on farms?
Well-planned rosters and proactive social moments (like parties and team-building days) improve retention and reduce turnover, which in turn lowers training costs and raises productivity.
Being Farmstrong: Dana Carver
Q: What are the main factors that differ in rural dairy farming compared to urban settings in terms of mental health and wellbeing?
Key differences include unsocial hours, weekend work, isolation, weather dependence, outdoor exposure as a protective factor, and the dynamic rosters and social support structures that shape wellbeing.
The Country Full Show: Tuesday, September 8, 2026
Q: What are the main concerns with the current emissions policy and how might it affect farming incentives?
The guests suggest that pricing emissions and the structure of credits need to be clear and credible, with focus on ensuring forestry isn't the only driver of emissions reductions and that farming can still invest and grow profitably while moving toward lower emissions.
The Country 08/09/26: Damien O'Connor talks to Jamie Mackay
Q: Now why didn't you do your poor old ag spokesperson, Jo Luxton, a bit of a favour and let her announce some of this ag policy on the Q&A rural debate?
Damien notes there is policy in the pipeline and that not all policy is ready to be unveiled, suggesting a plan to release it in a more digestible way rather than all at once, while acknowledging some awkward moments and the need for stronger communication.
The Country 08/09/26: Jen Corkran talks to Jamie Mackay
Q: What are the prospects for lamb like, Jen Corkran?
Lamb prices are above $12 with strong, broad demand and a diverse set of markets; the main uncertainty is the volume of lambs hitting the processing sector at once, which will depend on weather and supply timing, but overall the outlook remains positive.
