Far too many ads, huge doses of TDS and Richard Arnold is the most left leaning commentator I’ve ever heard.

  • The whistle has to go.

I wear a headset to listen to this show. Everytime you do mark the week. You blow a stupid whistle and it’s too loud. Either ditch it or turn the stupid whistle noise down.

  • One Star for Being on the Air

Even for someone like me who would have voted National, Mike’s bias is so much that I find the show embarrassing. The last straw for me is hearing him talk to his Australian correspondent Steve Price highly opinionated charlatan known here in Australia for his superficial understanding of the world.Fortunately, the time for broadcasters like Mike is near its end.

I can’t get ZB here in Whangarei, new cars(at least mine) do not have AM so the only access is the podcast. Now if they can just separate the snippets from the full show, life would be perfect.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Full Show Podcast: 11 May 2026
Q: What does the Iranian response mean for the broader Middle East strategy?
Analysts suggest it remains unclear whether a durable deal exists, with negotiations continuing and a cautious approach to diplomacy vs. potential escalation.
Full Show Podcast: 12 May 2026
Q: Why is housing affordability such a challenge for first-time buyers right now?
It's largely a deposit problem; incomes may be rising, but deposits are still a major hurdle, with many relying on family help to secure a place.
Ed McKnight: Economist at Opes Partners on the number of first-home buyers turning to their parents for financial assistance
Q: Has that 48% changed materially in the last handful of years or not?
Ed notes the figure has risen as buyers act on the belief that prices are lower now and incomes have outpaced price growth, making it feasible to seek parental support to get onto the ladder.
Anand Menon: Kings College Professor of European Politics on the growing number of Labour MPs calling for Keir Starmer's resignation
Q: Would Andy Burnham or another figure make a meaningful difference for Labour's leadership prospects?
Yes, Burnham could bring relatively higher popular appeal and potentially recalibrate Labour's electoral coalition, but any change would depend on timing, by-election dynamics, and whether he can secure broad enough support to unite the party.
Anand Menon: Kings College Professor of European Politics on the growing number of Labour MPs calling for Keir Starmer's resignation
Q: What do you make of the 62 and counting, and the prospects of a leadership change?
The MPs are slow to act due to strategic calculations and concerns about the next steps; while some want Starmer out, the lack of a clear and widely acceptable alternative makes a decisive move unlikely in the near term.
