  • A needed introduction to the law around parking

A great introduction to a surprisingly complex area of law. As somebody who doesn’t drive I had never considered how complicated parking can be and how much notice drivers must take of it. Also, on the back end, the issues that can arise for parking providers are numerous. Any issues that arise simply provide more work for lawyers :)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A major power shift for UK landlords | Commercial Awareness Compass #69
Q: How much is the power balance shifting between tenants and landlords, given these reforms?
There is a clear shift toward tenant protections with the removal of no-fault evictions and longer, more regulated processes; however, landlords retain some leverage through statutory grounds, mandatory court hearings, and new compliance requirements, creating a more complex but not entirely one-sided dynamic.
A major power shift for UK landlords | Commercial Awareness Compass #69
Q: What exactly is the section 21 notice, and how significant is the change that's happening to that?
The act abolishes the short-hold tenancies and the option to use section 21 for possession, meaning landlords must rely on other grounds under the Housing Act and prove them in court, which also introduces longer timelines and greater evidentiary requirements.
Data use after Brexit: the new rules businesses cannot ignore | Commercial Awareness Compass #63
Q: So what is the Data Use and Access Act, and why is it important for UK businesses?
It is the first post-Brexit data protection regulation in the UK that builds on the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, aiming to refine how data is used while reducing some red tape, thereby expanding permissible processing under certain safeguards.
Health data under the microscope: Protecting your permanent records | Commercial Awareness Compass #70
Q: How should a company approach data transfers across jurisdictions to stay compliant as they expand internationally?
They should map data flows comprehensively, tailor transfer mechanisms to each jurisdiction, consider data localization and access controls, and maintain ongoing communication with regulators and data subjects where appropriate to adapt to evolving laws and enforcement practices.
Health data under the microscope: Protecting your permanent records | Commercial Awareness Compass #70
Q: What do you see as the core components of an effective data protection framework for a modern tech or life sciences company?
An effective framework aligns with the company's actual operations, supports practical risk management, and scales with growth. It balances regulatory requirements with industry specifics, uses pragmatic policies, and ensures governance and accountability across business units rather than forcing generic, one-size-fits-all procedures.
