  • Great Info for a New ISP

We are a newish native owned WISP in rural Allendale, SC (Redfi Broadband) and this Podcast has given so much insight for us. Binged listened to the episodes. I’D love to hear more interviews with WISP and those who are running hybrid solutions to hear how they did it especially on a budget! Great job guys.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 487: How John Capobianco Is Rethinking Network Automation with AI
Q: You know, can you just give us an overview of what that journey with Lumen was like?
The journey involved workshops and close collaboration where Lumen's team deployed a combined Itential-Selector platform to autonomously detect root causes, run structured workflows, and remediate problems, moving toward a self-healing, closed-loop network.
Episode 486: Steve Schwerbel on Fixed Wireless Policy and State Broadband Strategy
Q: What are the biggest contracting challenges under BEAD, and how should states address them to keep projects moving?
Contract terms need to be strong and clear on termination, milestones, and the right-level of certainty, while remaining flexible to ground realities like labor and supply constraints. States should align terms with BEAD requirements but also consider improvements like infrastructure-bank-style financing to avoid perpetual policy fights over what to fund.
Episode 486: Steve Schwerbel on Fixed Wireless Policy and State Broadband Strategy
Q: Why is fixed wireless a key part of the state's toolkit, and how does it complement fiber and other technologies?
Fixed wireless offers a cost-effective, scalable way to reach hard-to-serve rural areas where deploying fiber is expensive. Wisconsin's approach has been to keep a technology-neutral stance, letting the market choose the best tool for the job and using fixed wireless where it makes the most sense alongside fiber and other solutions.
Episode 486: Steve Schwerbel on Fixed Wireless Policy and State Broadband Strategy
Q: How did you get into policy advocacy, and what drew you to state-level broadband work?
I took an unconventional path after the Peace Corps, moving from private-sector roles to state government where I could focus on broadband, which I saw as a rural development tool. My work in the Wisconsin legislature and with Wispa helped me see the power of fixed wireless and the importance of technology-neutral policy.
Episode 485: Marcelo Cataldo on Building a Future Ready Digicel Across the Caribbean
Q: What was your welcome to the Caribbean moment that crystallized your tenure?
Marcelo describes surviving a Category 4 hurricane early in his tenure in Jamaica, which underscored the telecom network's role as a lifeline for communities and governments and highlighted the urgent need for rapid crisis response and network restoration.
