  • This podcast is so incisive and interesting and well-organised. I'm so tired of the "3+ randos ramble aimlessly about something they love but have no particular expertise on" genre of podcasts. Happily, this is the opposite. Well informed, well structured, insightful and generous.

  • Lives up to the magazine!

I’ve loved BW/DR’s written content for over ten years, so when I wanted to check out some podcasts I came right here. The podcast follows the tone of the magazine: incisive film analysis rooted in emotional connection to the source text. Great podcast!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Rope (with Michael Koresky)
Q: How has it been for you teaching these films to young people now?
It's really rewarding and inspiring seeing the responses of young people.
Gladiator (with Blake Howard)
Q: What motivated a 2024 rewatch unrelated to anything you had to watch?
It was Gladiator II homework. I hadn't seen Gladiator in a long time. I'd seen it a lot on TV where it's significantly shorter.
A Different Man (with Frank Falisi)
Q: What were your impressions of the film?
I found it remarkable, especially for its humor and the way it handles metaphor in a meaningful way.
A Different Man (with Frank Falisi)
Q: Veronica, you had suggested this one. What was the impetus?
It's definitely one of my favorites of 2024 for sure, and I couldn't stop thinking about The Substance, which I really did not like while watching this film.
