  • Great podcast

I really enjoy listening to The Bridge. The guests are great and knowledgeable, and the podcast shares information about China that you simply won’t hear in Western media. I’ve learned a lot about the country and gained a much better understanding of cultural differences.

  • Informative and entertaining podcast for an American like me getting prepared to visit China!

I’ll be visiting China from the US in a month and this podcast has helped ease anxieties and brought more understanding to the culture for me. I would love an episode on other ways a foreigner can get prepared to go to China - such as misconceptions about unlawful arrests (misinformation spread online makes China seem dangerous), medications we can or should bring, to use a VPN or not, any adjustments you had to make when going to China, etc. Thanks again!

How to get a business into China
Q: What practical steps would you suggest to a young entrepreneur wanting to enter China?
Start by leveraging local networks and recognized channels like chambers of commerce and consulates, use social platforms such as LinkedIn to initiate connections, and attend relevant conferences and trade shows to meet potential partners. Build credibility through referrals and by demonstrating a genuine commitment to learning and adapting to Chinese business culture, then gradually expand your network with trusted introductions.
What’s Next for China?
Q: How is China planning to sustain growth through the five-year plan and infrastructure investment?
The plan emphasizes upgrading traditional industries with new technologies, expanding the grid and high-speed infrastructure, and embedding AI and automation across production and services to drive long-term growth and productivity.
What’s Next for China?
Q: What is the role of real estate in the economy going forward and how might it stabilize in 2026?
Real estate is expected to stabilize as demand returns with higher housing purchases in lower-risk segments, supported by policy easing for developers and social housing initiatives, while other sectors pick up the slack from infrastructure and services investment.
What’s Next for China?
Q: Why do Western forecasters tend to underestimate China's growth targets?
Forecasters underestimate China due to a combination of political narratives, misreading domestic investment dynamics, and underappreciation of the speed and breadth of China's industrial upgrading and policy responses.
Inside China's government
Q: In your opinion, what are the strengths of China's consultative model, and how does it compare to Western systems?
China's consultative model emphasizes substantial democracy through active participation and state-driven responsiveness, with local governments directly addressing people's needs and incorporating feedback into policy, which many perceive as more effective at delivering tangible outcomes than some Western systems.
