  • Sino-centric views

Discussions are well organized and rational. Relevant topics with good details.

But listeners should be aware that the unspoken tone of the show is that China is an exceptional nation, US should not pursue its own interests if that conflicts with Chinese interests.

I listen to this primarily to understand ‘how enemy thinks.’

  • Amazing podcast!

I’d never heard of the sinica podcast until it was mentioned on a video from the Chinese cooking demystified channel on YouTube and decided to take a listen. I left the podcast so excited to explore all of the things they discussed, and some of the comments they only made in passing. China has such a fascinating and amazing history and culture. I’m glad there are podcast and resources like this and Chinese cooking demystified that help to further discovery and understanding.

Michael Brenes and Van Jackson on Why U.S.-China Great-Power Competition Threatens Peace and Weakens Democracy
Q: What are the main pillars behind the idea of a new U.S.-China detente?
The three main pillars include war prevention over war preparation, adopting security dilemma sensibility, and emphasizing associative balancing for international stability.
Michael Brenes and Van Jackson on Why U.S.-China Great-Power Competition Threatens Peace and Weakens Democracy
Q: How do you think national security Keynesianism affects job creation?
National security Keynesianism is capital intensive and bad at job creation, funneling money to elite actors rather than benefiting the broad working class.
Michael Brenes and Van Jackson on Why U.S.-China Great-Power Competition Threatens Peace and Weakens Democracy
Q: What specific policy development or rhetorical turn led you to write this book?
The rising concerns about the Biden administration's framing of U.S.-China relations as Cold War liberalism and the need to address its impact on American democracy led to the collaboration on the book.
Murder House: Zhong Na on the Silicon Valley Tragedy That Exposed the Cracks in China's Meritocracy
Q: Could you talk about education, class, and this promise or this illusion of upward mobility?
For generations, China has always believed in education's value, but now resources are unevenly distributed, exposing cracks in that meritocractic illusion.
Murder House: Zhong Na on the Silicon Valley Tragedy That Exposed the Cracks in China's Meritocracy
Q: Zhong Na, how did the story first reach you?
I felt that the story, the English media's depiction of the story didn't do the couple justice, and I realized I had a personal entry point to the story.
