Love this pod. Great discussions.
Drives me insane that every episode has a different audio quality. This week’s ep, the guy sounds underwater.
Makes my heart sink when a new ep is up because I’ll know I have to sit through bad recording.
After sticking with this for nearly a year, I am now a “former“ listener/reader. I find that the quality varies enormously, and that the topic selection lacks coherence. The range of topic is indeed wild. The last episode “Dissent from Moscow to Beijing” was really good.
Skip all episodes with Dylan, Doug, and Jon (Transistor Radio).
Update 2 (June 2025): the Transistor Radio/SemiAnalysis guys are torturous to listen to. Incoherent memespeak with very little value.
Update: ChinaTalk is now barely about China and much more about AI, US defense policy, and Jordan’s other assorted interests. Podcasts evolve, but the show no longer does what it says on the tin. Worse, Jordan rarely stops to explain the acronyms and tech jargon he’s using, which a China watcher who isn’t an AI expert shouldn’t be expected to know.
