Cam, take some notes of what you want to say, review them, get a thought in your head, then deliver the thought with proper flow. The “umms” and “ahhs” every third word out of your mouth is lazy and grating. Delivery is just as important as content.
Delete the uh’s. It’s painful to listen to.
Tooze is thoughtful and fluent on all sorts of topics. I especially enjoy his historical insights. But the host needs to tighten up his rambling questions. Even when his questions are relatively short he will still circle back over the same territory and repeat himself. And so many “ums” and “uhs,” like he’s groping around for the next word. If I’m not driving, I skip ahead 15-30 seconds to get to Tooze’s response.

A data-driven, economist-history hybrid show that dissects global events through paired data points each week: one anchored in the headlines and another drawn from broader historical, policy, or economic patterns. Episodes routinely blend macro indicators, geopolitics, and policy reform with thorough historical context, delivering nuanced discussions on topics like wartime economies, energy geopolitics, monetary policy, technology's impact on markets, and major international developments. Notable is the clear dyadic format, the depth of historical framing, and the willingness to connect academic insight to contemporary headlines, which can help listeners understand complex systems and long-run trends. The show often features brisk, in-depth... more
