Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can AI go underwater?
Q: What are the maintenance and reliability implications for underwater operation?
Remote monitoring, modular sealed systems, and specialized vessels or robots are required for maintenance, with ongoing considerations for corrosion, pressure, and seabed movement.
Can AI go underwater?
Q: How does the cost compare to traditional data centers, and is it economically viable in the long term?
The Shanghai project cost around 1.6 billion yuan ($235 million), and while that startup cost is high, proponents argue long-term energy savings and renewable power could make it viable if scaled.
Can AI go underwater?
Q: Is this a smart solution to the world's data center controversy?
Yes, as a potential way to reduce land and freshwater use while leveraging renewable energy, though it comes with significant technical and logistical challenges that must be solved for large-scale deployments.
Encore: Inside China's AI boom: an American expert's view
Q: What differences have you noticed between the AI research ecosystems in North America and China?
China has a larger pool of strong undergraduates and a fast-improving educational system, while the United States still leads in some senior faculty and research depth; overall, China is competitive and improves rapidly, especially in manufacturing-enabled AI applications like embodied AI.
Read, then roam
Q: What wider message do the hosts pull from the Shenzhen stories?
They use the stories about bird habitats and urban light policies to argue that coexistence with nature requires restraint and thoughtful planning, not simply trying to silence nature for convenience.
