  • Please fix the sound

Unfortunately, the sound is so badly mixed that when the host speaks, it’s super low and after turning up the volume, here comes the jingle, loud and obnoxious. Please fix it. I like to listen otherwise.

    Thanks!

  • Re: Medical Cannabis

I was catching up on some episodes and found this. I have several concerns…. 1. Driving while under the influence of cannabis. We just had a fatal car crash less than a mile from my home where the driver admitted to using cannabis. She hit a pedestrian and killed him. BTW there were several children in her car. 2. People who think they can self treat seizures with cannabis/CBD. This is loaded with danger - long term effects of uncontrolled seizures, (for teenagers and adults) driving with an ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

184 – The Meniscus: when in doubt, leave it in
Q: Why are surgical placebo-controlled trials so challenging to implement?
They require ethical justification, careful blinding, and often complex surgical mimic procedures; the design must ensure that the placebo is believable while not harming patients.
176 – Prostate Cancer Update
Q: What are the main treatment options for low-risk prostate cancer?
Options include active surveillance, surgery (prostatectomy), and radiation (external or brachytherapy); choice depends on risk stratification, PSA level, Gleason score, and patient preferences, with active surveillance reducing overtreatment.
176 – Prostate Cancer Update
Q: When should MRI be used in the diagnostic workup—before or after biopsy?
MRI is increasingly used to guide biopsy and improve detection; a normal MRI does not guarantee absence of cancer, but it can help decide whether to biopsy and how to target biopsies.
176 – Prostate Cancer Update
Q: What is the current stance on PSA testing for prostate cancer screening?
PSA testing has uncertain benefit in reducing mortality, is non-specific, and can lead to false positives that trigger unnecessary imaging and biopsies; decisions should be made with awareness of these limitations and in context of individual risk.
171 - Worms: if you're squeamish, you may want to skip this episode
Q: Do you think we should be more sensitized to the possibility of parasites?
Dr. Labos indicates that it depends on context; if someone has a history of activities that could lead to exposure, then it's reasonable, but widespread testing is not necessary.
