  • Mr. Interrogator.

His interviews are more like an interrogation. This nebbish also talks to his guests like he knows everything and everyone.

  • Bob is a legend

Great interviews done in a somewhat unconventional style. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s done/lived the research. Deep dives into topics, personalities and music. Highly recommend.

  • I’m a fan

I listen to 90% of Bob’s podcasts and really enjoy them. He asks the tough and uncomfortable questions, even ones I wouldn’t ask but I’m glad he does.

And he almost always has excellent guests, even the ones I’m not familiar with usually end up being interesting

  • Mr. Know-It-All

He does a great and uncomfortable interview with his guests. But Bobby-Boy acts like he knows everything.

  • Soothsayer. Town Crier.

This man is 1 of 1.

Bob doesn’t chase trends. The industry may be filled with noise, but Bob cuts through with clarity and conviction. He asks the questions no one else will, and people answer him because they know he actually listens. What you get isn’t spin. It’s truth. And that’s rare.

Bill Schnee
Q: Every speaker sounds different. How important were the speakers to you and what do you listen to on playback?
Speakers are very important, and your relationship to those speakers can make a significant difference in your mixes.
Bill Schnee
Q: As a producer, how much did you put your tentacles into the creative end of it?
You do what's required, which can vary, as sometimes you're more involved in shaping the music and other times less so.
Bill Schnee
Q: So if you have tubes and transistors, when would you use transistors?
Transistors are faster, meaning the sound is quicker, whereas tubes react a little slower but produce a warmer, richer sound.
Bill Schnee
Q: You wrote a book, Chairman of the Board, Recording the Soundtrack of a Generation. Can you tell us a little bit more about that?
The book discusses the different microphone types and the techniques and personal anecdotes from Bill's experiences in recording.
Bill Schnee
Q: So what's the appeal of mixing for you?
It started with the creative aspect of putting the elements together and making it come out of a couple of speakers that moves both me and hope it moves the listeners.
