  • One of my favourite!

This is one of my favourite wine related podcasts! MJ’s interview style is really good and he gets his guests to tell their stories from a personal perspective. Sad to see this podcast go! However, there are some episodes I will listen to over again because they were that good! Listening from BERMUDA, great show!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cultivating Legacy: Altamura’s Story of Wine, Family, and Italian Heritage
Q: How did Altamura originate and what role did family play in starting the winery?
The property was in the Altamura family since 1855, originally cattle ranching with some orchards; the winemaking came about when the parents started planting grapes in the late 70s/early 80s, guided by hands-on experience and a strong belief in growing their own fruit and keeping control of production.
Building Tribes and Telling Stories: How Placebos, Status, and Story Shape Wine and Life with Seth Godin
Q: What's the role of influencer marketing vs permission-based marketing?
Influencers can be effective only if the partnership is for the right audience and built on trust; permission-based marketing focuses on delivering relevant messages to people who want them.
Building Tribes and Telling Stories: How Placebos, Status, and Story Shape Wine and Life with Seth Godin
Q: How should a winemaker tell their story to connect with customers?
Shift from a purely product-centric approach to storytelling that conveys meaning, connection, and status to a well-defined audience.
Building Tribes and Telling Stories: How Placebos, Status, and Story Shape Wine and Life with Seth Godin
Q: What is Tribes about and how does it apply to wine and marketing?
Tribes is about forming communities of like-minded people; for winemakers this means identifying who the audience is and building a dedicated following rather than chasing mass markets.
Building Tribes and Telling Stories: How Placebos, Status, and Story Shape Wine and Life with Seth Godin
Q: Tell people a little bit about your work.
Seth explains that marketing is fundamentally about understanding human behavior and creating work that resonates with a specific group, focusing on tribes, connection, and storytelling rather than broad advertising.
